Cowboys & Aliens Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

We watched Cowboys & Aliens on Blu-Ray the other and the quality on the Blu-Ray was good but it make the CGI not look as good and it is based on the 2006 graphic novel, which is the same thing as comic book the size of a novel, of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg but that is all we know about the comic.

Genre: Western, Sci-Fi, Action Adventure, Comic Book,
Release Date: July 29, 2011 (2011-07-29)
Running Time: 118 minutes
MMPA rating: PG-13

The Good: A good blend of western and sic-fi, Awesome sci-fi western action, All star cast including Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, and Olivia Wilde,

The Bad:

Plot: The following plot summery is copied from Wikipedia.com.
In 1873, Arizona Territory, an unnamed loner (Daniel Craig) awakens in the desert injured, with no memory, and with a strange metal band shackled to his wrist. After beating three drifters who try to rob him, he takes their clothes, weapons, and a horse and rides off. He wanders into the small town of Absolution, where the local preacher, Meacham (Clancy Brown), treats his wound. After the stranger subdues Percy Dolarhyde (Paul Dano), a volatile drunk who has been terrorizing the populace, Sheriff Taggart (Keith Carradine) recognizes him as Jake Lonergan, a wanted outlaw, and tries to arrest him. Jake nearly escapes, but a mysterious woman named Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde) incapacitates him.
Percy's father, Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), a wealthy and influential cattleman, arrives with his men and demands that Percy be released to him. He also wants Jake, who stole Dolarhyde's gold. During the standoff, alien spaceships begin attacking the town, and Percy, the sheriff, and many townsfolk are abducted. Jake shoots down one ship with a device concealed in his wrist band, ending the attack.
Dolarhyde, Ella, and some townsfolk form a posse to track an alien that may have ejected from the downed ship. Jake, meanwhile, travels to an abandoned cabin, and in a flashback, recalls returning there with the gold just before he and a woman, Alice, were abducted by the aliens. Jake returns to join the posse. During the night, the alien they were tracking appears and kills Meacham, who sacrifices himself to save Emmett (Noah Ringer), Taggart's grandson. Watch the movie to see happens next.

Plot: 7.8/10- The plot was original and combinded western and sic-fi very well.

Action: 8.0/10- There were many great action scenes including an epic fight scene at the end of the movie.

Acting: 7.8/10- The cast was packed with great actors including Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, and Olivia Wilde. Daniel Craig, who is British and played James Bond in the recent James Bond movies, changed his accent from a British accent to tough western America accent. If I didn't know that he was British before I saw him in the movie I wouldn't have known it.

Special effects: 7.1/10- The special effects were not the greatest I have ever seen compared to other movies this year but they were good.

Soundtrack: 8.6/10 The soundtrack was a perfect blend of sci-fi and western music.

Comedy: 6.8/10- There were some humorous lines in the movie.

Overall: 7.7/10- Overall Cowboys & Aliens succeed at being multiple different genres at the same time.

Closing comments: With a name like Cowboys & Aliens you might think it is going to be a dumb and cheesy action movie but it had surprisingly good character development. Not to say it was a masterpiece by any means but it was good.

Eight months ago after watching the trailer for the movie we though of an idea for Lego movie parody to make and since Harrison Ford was in the movie thought it would be a great idea for a spoof. Please watch the video below and tell what you think. Even if you didn't watch the movie you might like it if you like Star Wars.

  1. First off, your parody was HILARIOUS! Great job, everything ran pretty smooth too, and that's hard to accomplish with legoes!

I saw the trailer for this movie in theaters when I went to see Captain America and I started squealing when I recognized Harrison Ford. I whispered really loud after the trailer finished, "It's Han Solo! It's Han Solo!" XD

Good review, I'd like to watch this sometime...

  2. Thanks for the cool comment. My fave episode of Top Gear UK is when they were in the south too. Another one I like is when they were up north in the Arctic trying to make it through the snow on their own homemade snow combine and somehow Richard Hammond had lost his wedding ring in the snow. Poor guy, hope he found it.

But anyway, I just worried that maybe it sounded bad. But you say it didn't sound bad, so that's good. Love your blog btw. Really awesome movies!!!! Personally, my favorite LOTR movies is the 3rd one, Return of the King, love love love it!
