Top 5 Christmas Movies.

Today is Christmas Eve so here are the Top 5 Christmas Movies.
We don't like many Christmas movies since most are dramas. But here is the list of the ones we do like.

At Number 5: A Christmas Carol
We have seen a few different version of the story but this is our favorite.

At Number 4: It's A Wonderful Life
Most would have this at number but we did are bais since we don't like dramas but Jimmy Stewart was great.

At Number 3: Elf
Elf was a very funny Will Ferrell Christmas comedy there isn't munch else to say.

At Number 2: Die Hard
Die Hard is not really a "Christmas movie" but since the story is set on Christmas day we are going to count it. We like this movie more than any other movie on the list but since it a straight up Christmas movie it is not number one.

At Number 1: Home Alone
This has always been our favorite Christmas movie for as long as we can remember.

The Great Escape Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

Cad Bane's chick at Pandas, Lightsabers and Cameras, oh my!! requested that we review old movies so here is the review for The Great Escape.
JT/King Valun at The Window on the South requested that we review a "historical fiction" movie so here is the review for The Great Escpae which is a "historical fiction".

We recently re-watched one of our favorite classic war movie The Great Escape.
Directed by: John Sturges
Genre: War, Action,
Release Date: July 4, 1963
Running Time: 172 minutes
MMPA rating: PG

The Good: One of the greatest chase scenes of all time, All-Star cast of amazing actors including Steve McQueen, James Garner, Charles Bronson, James Coburn and many others, The performances in the movie were amazing it gave you connection with character and made you want them succeed, Second best war movie of all time, The movie was humorous yet serious when it needed to be,
The Bad:

Plot: The following plot summery is copied from Wikipedia.com.
Having wasted enormous resources on recapturing Allied prisoners of war (POWs), the Germans move the most determined to a new, high-security prisoner of war camp. The commandant, Luftwaffe Colonel von Luger, tells the senior British officer, Group Capt Ramsey, "There will be no escapes from this camp." Ramsey replies that it is their duty to try to escape. After several failed escape attempts on the first day, the POWs settle into the prison camp.
Gestapo and SS agents bring Squadron Leader Roger Bartlett (RAF) to the camp and deliver him to von Luger. Known as "Big X," Bartlett is the principal organizer of escapes and Gestapo agent Kuhn orders that he be kept under the most restrictive permanent security confinement, which Col. von Luger, disgusted by the Nazis and the SS, only makes a "note" of, treating the command with complete contempt. As Kuhn leaves, he warns Bartlett that if he escapes again, he will be shot. Bartlett is then placed with the rest of the POWs, rather than the restrictive holding that Gestapo agent Kuhn had demanded.
Locked up with "every escape artist in Germany", Bartlett immediately plans the greatest escape attempted—tunnels for breaking out 250 prisoners. The intent is to "confuse, confound and harass the enemy" to the point that as many troops and resources as possible will be wasted on finding POWs instead of being used on the front line. Watch the movie to see what happens next.

Plot: 9.6/10- The plot is based on a true story of POW's escaping from a German prison camp and it makes a great plot for a movie.

Action: 8.4/10- The movie was not action packed until the end were there was an amazing chase scene.

Acting: 9.5/10- As I said earlier the acting in the was top notch.

Special effects: N/A

Soundtrack: 8.5/10- The soundtrack was a great classic war theme fit the movie very well.

Comedy: 8.5/10- The movie was surprisingly funny in parts of the movie.

Overall: 9.4/10- Overall The Great Escape is one of the best war movies ever made and great classic movie.

Closing comments: If you like watching good movies you can't go wrong with The Great Escape.

Quigley Down Under Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

Directed by: Simon Wincer
Genre: Western, Adventure,
Release Date: October 17, 1990
Running Time: 119 minutes
MMPA rating: PG-13

The Good: Very comical at times, Good western action, Tom Selleck plays a great cowboy, Interesting Australian setting,

The Bad:

The trailer for the movie doesn't work on blogger but if you want to see it click here.

Plot: Tom Selleck plays Matthew Quigley, a cowboy and sharpshooter from America with a keen eye and a specially modified rifle with which he can shoot accurately at extraordinary distances. Quigley's weapon of choice is an 1874 Sharps Buffalo Rifle. He answers a newspaper advertisement that asks for men with a special talent in long distance shooting with four words: "Matthew Quigley 900 yards" written on a copy of the advertisement, punctuated by several closely spaced bullet holes. When he arrives in Australia, he is met by employees of the man who hired him, Elliot Marston (Alan Rickman). Quigley tries to prevent the men from forcing "Crazy Cora" (Laura San Giacomo) onto their wagon and beats the men until they learn that Quigley is the individual they were sent to pick up. Quigley is eventually taken to Marston's station in the Western Australian outback.
Marston is infatuated with stories of quick-draw gunslingers from the American Old West, believing himself to have been born on the wrong continent, and amazed that Quigley has actually been to Dodge City. He informs Quigley his sharpshooting skills will be used to eradicate the increasingly elusive native Aborigines. Marston's killing of aborigines is technically illegal, but he implies that it is tolerated by the local military police with whom Marston has "an arrangement." Quigley, who believed he was hired to shoot dingos, finds the idea abhorrent and the two men are quickly headed for a showdown. Watch the movie to see what happens next.

Plot: 8.4/10- Quigley Down Under's plot is a classic adventure movie with a Australia twist.

Action: 8.3/10- The action was very good classic western action adventure.

Acting: 8.3/10- Tom Selleck plays a very good cowboy and Laura San Giacomo was very funny.

Special effects: N/A

Soundtrack: 7.9/10- The soundtrack had a very classic western feel to it.

Comedy: 9.0/10- Laura San Giacomo's character was very funny but Quigley Down Under is not a comedy.

Overall: 8.3/10- Overall Quigley Down Under is a very good western that brings back the classic western genre.

Closing comments: If you don't like westerns you probably won't like Quigley Down Under but if you do like westerns you should check it out.

Cowboys & Aliens Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

We watched Cowboys & Aliens on Blu-Ray the other and the quality on the Blu-Ray was good but it make the CGI not look as good and it is based on the 2006 graphic novel, which is the same thing as comic book the size of a novel, of the same name created by Scott Mitchell Rosenberg but that is all we know about the comic.

Directed by: Jon Favreau
Genre: Western, Sci-Fi, Action Adventure, Comic Book,
Release Date: July 29, 2011 (2011-07-29)
Running Time: 118 minutes
MMPA rating: PG-13

The Good: A good blend of western and sic-fi, Awesome sci-fi western action, All star cast including Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, and Olivia Wilde,

The Bad:

Plot: The following plot summery is copied from Wikipedia.com.
In 1873, Arizona Territory, an unnamed loner (Daniel Craig) awakens in the desert injured, with no memory, and with a strange metal band shackled to his wrist. After beating three drifters who try to rob him, he takes their clothes, weapons, and a horse and rides off. He wanders into the small town of Absolution, where the local preacher, Meacham (Clancy Brown), treats his wound. After the stranger subdues Percy Dolarhyde (Paul Dano), a volatile drunk who has been terrorizing the populace, Sheriff Taggart (Keith Carradine) recognizes him as Jake Lonergan, a wanted outlaw, and tries to arrest him. Jake nearly escapes, but a mysterious woman named Ella Swenson (Olivia Wilde) incapacitates him.
Percy's father, Colonel Woodrow Dolarhyde (Harrison Ford), a wealthy and influential cattleman, arrives with his men and demands that Percy be released to him. He also wants Jake, who stole Dolarhyde's gold. During the standoff, alien spaceships begin attacking the town, and Percy, the sheriff, and many townsfolk are abducted. Jake shoots down one ship with a device concealed in his wrist band, ending the attack.
Dolarhyde, Ella, and some townsfolk form a posse to track an alien that may have ejected from the downed ship. Jake, meanwhile, travels to an abandoned cabin, and in a flashback, recalls returning there with the gold just before he and a woman, Alice, were abducted by the aliens. Jake returns to join the posse. During the night, the alien they were tracking appears and kills Meacham, who sacrifices himself to save Emmett (Noah Ringer), Taggart's grandson. Watch the movie to see happens next.

Plot: 7.8/10- The plot was original and combinded western and sic-fi very well.

Action: 8.0/10- There were many great action scenes including an epic fight scene at the end of the movie.

Acting: 7.8/10- The cast was packed with great actors including Harrison Ford, Daniel Craig, Sam Rockwell, and Olivia Wilde. Daniel Craig, who is British and played James Bond in the recent James Bond movies, changed his accent from a British accent to tough western America accent. If I didn't know that he was British before I saw him in the movie I wouldn't have known it.

Special effects: 7.1/10- The special effects were not the greatest I have ever seen compared to other movies this year but they were good.

Soundtrack: 8.6/10 The soundtrack was a perfect blend of sci-fi and western music.

Comedy: 6.8/10- There were some humorous lines in the movie.

Overall: 7.7/10- Overall Cowboys & Aliens succeed at being multiple different genres at the same time.

Closing comments: With a name like Cowboys & Aliens you might think it is going to be a dumb and cheesy action movie but it had surprisingly good character development. Not to say it was a masterpiece by any means but it was good.

Recommended for: Western fans, Sci-Fi fans, Action fans, Harrison Ford fans, Comic Book fans,

Eight months ago after watching the trailer for the movie we though of an idea for Lego movie parody to make and since Harrison Ford was in the movie thought it would be a great idea for a spoof. Please watch the video below and tell what you think. Even if you didn't watch the movie you might like it if you like Star Wars.

Young Guns Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

Sorry for not posting yesterday. I lost internet for the day and could not post.

Thanks Aalya Rain at Fangirl & Farmgirl recommending Young Guns.

JT/King Valun at The Window on the South requested that we review a "historical fiction" movie so here is the review for Young Guns which is a "historical fiction".

We watched Young Guns the other day and later that day we watch a show named Brad Meltzer Decoded on the History Channel. The show is about the mysteries of history and the epsiodes that we watched was about Billy the Kid who was in the movie Young Guns which we just watched. Surprisingly the movie is not that different from history is a few key parts but it is a movie and it changed the story to make it more interesting.

Directed by: Christopher Cain
Genre: Western, Action,
Release Date: August 12, 1988
Running Time: 107 minutes
MMPA rating: R

The Good: Emilio Estevez as Billy the kid was very good, Great western shooting action, Some awesome scenes, Some of the movie was very humorous,

The Bad: Some cheesy dialogue, Bad acting by some of the minor characters,

Warning: This movie is rated "R" for graphic violence, profanity, and other mature content.

Plot: The following plot summery is copied from Wikipedia.com.
John Tunstall (Terence Stamp), an educated Englishman and cattle rancher in Lincoln County, New Mexico, hires wayward young gunmen to live and work on his ranch. Tunstall is in heavy competition with another well-connected rancher named Murphy (Jack Palance) and their men clash on a regular basis. Tunstall recruits Billy (Emilio Estevez) and advises him to renounce violence saying that "He who sows the wind will reap the whirlwind." Tensions escalate between the two camps, resulting in the murder of Tunstall. Billy, Doc (Kiefer Sutherland), Chavez (Lou Diamond Phillips), Dick (Charlie Sheen), Dirty Steve (Dermot Mulroney), and Charlie (Casey Siemaszko), consult their lawyer friend Alex (Terry O'Quinn), who manages to get them deputized and given warrants for the arrest of Murphy's murderous henchmen.
Billy quickly challenges Dick's authority as leader, vowing revenge against Murphy and the men responsible for killing Tunstall. The men call themselves "The Regulators" and arrest some of the murderers, but hot-headed Billy is unable to wait for justice. He guns down unarmed men and goes on to kill one of his fellow Regulators in the paranoid (but correct) belief that he was still in league with Murphy. The men are stripped of their badges, which they find out about by reading a newspaper. That same paper also confuses Dick for Billy, showing a picture of Dick labeled "Billy the Kid," a nickname to which Billy takes an immediate liking. Watch the movie to what happens next.

Plot: 7.9/10- The plot is loosely based on true events. The plot was good but had some cheesy plot choices.

Action: 8.3/10- The action scenes were top notch with some really cool shoot outs.

Acting: 7.7/10- With the exception of some minor actors the acting very good with

Special effects: N/A

Soundtrack: 8.1/10- The soundtrack was different from most westerns with a 1980s rock theme which I liked.

Comedy: 7.8/10- Young Guns had some very funny moments like when they got high on cactus juice.

Overall: 8.0/10-  Overall Young Guns is a fun and entertaining western.

Closing comments: If you like western you should check Young Guns.

Something You Didn't Know About Captain America: The First Avenger.

Warning Spoilers Ahead! If you have not seen Captain America: The First Avenger do not read the post! You have been warned!

Last warning!

Bucky is not dead!
You may be wondering why we think this. It is because in the comics Bucky comes back 60 years later as the characters Winter Soldier. We assume that the movies are staying close to the original comic book. If so he most likely will be in the up coming Captain America in 2014. We really didn't think about making post about Bucky until we read a post by Jamie at throughtwoblueeyes because it is common knowledge to fans of the orignial comics. If you want to more details read Bucky's history below.

The following is copied from Wikipedia.com.

Bucky's History.
Barnes (named after James Buchanan, the 15th President of the United States), was born in Shelbyville, Indiana in 1925. He is an orphan, the son of a soldier killed in training at U.S. Army Camp Lehigh in Virginia just before the United States' entry into World War II. As a result, he is unofficially adopted by the camp as a mascot. Nicknamed "Bucky," he takes to wearing a uniform and becoming savvy with the ins and outs of military life, even though he is a teenager. It was at Lehigh that he meets and befriends Private Steven Rogers, who by all appearances is the clumsiest soldier in the camp. This was at the same time that reports of the then-mysterious Captain America begin to appear in news magazines, and Barnes eagerly devours the accounts of this new hero.
In 1940, Bucky accidentally walked in on Rogers changing into his uniform, thus discovering his friend was Captain America and insisted that he join him. He underwent extensive training and was assigned to be Captain America's partner. The military justified putting a 15-year-old in harm's way by using him as a symbol to rally the youth of America (as revealed in Captain America vol. 5, #12, Dec 2005). They fight the Red Skull together, and Captain America accepts Bucky as his partner.Together, Captain America and Bucky fight Nazis both at home and abroad, as a duo and as part of the superhero team known as the Invaders, fighting Master Man in their first mission. Barnes also teams up with the sidekicks of other heroes in a group called the Young Allies. Additionally, Bucky was retconned in 1976 as the organizer of the flashback World War II super-team the Liberty Legion, set between the formations of the Invaders and the post-war All-Winners Squad. He was also briefly one of the Kid Commandos at this time. Bucky served as an advance scout for Captain America and the Invaders, often being assigned tasks that none of the heroes could be seen doing.
In the closing days of World War II in 1945, Captain America and Bucky tried to stop the villainous Baron Zemo from destroying an experimental drone plane. Zemo launches the plane with an armed explosive device on it, with Rogers and Barnes in hot pursuit. They reach the plane just before it takes off. Bucky unsuccessfully tries to defuse the bomb, and it explodes in mid-air before reaching its intended target. He is believed to have been killed in action, and Rogers is hurled into the freezing waters of the North Atlantic. Rogers' body, preserved in suspended animation in a block of ice, is found decades later by The Avengers when the Grandmaster was defeated.
It was only in modern times that Captain America would learn that Bucky had a sister, Rebecca, whom he met at a veterans Christmas celebration. Bucky also had one notable post-mortem appearance when the Grandmaster challenged the West and East Coast Avengers for the destruction of the universe, apparently resurrecting long-dead friends and foes for them to fight. Captain America battled Bucky, whom he defeated, and the apparitions disappeared.

Winter Soldier

After the plane explodes, General Vasily Karpov and the crew of a Russian patrol submarine find Bucky's cold-preserved body, minus one arm. Bucky is revived in Moscow, but suffers brain damage with amnesia as a result of the explosion. Scientists attach a bionic arm, upgrading it every time technology improves.
Programmed to be a Soviet assassin for Department X, under the code name the Winter Soldier, he is sent on covert wetworks missions, i.e. missions involving assassination, becoming increasingly ruthless and efficient as he kills in the name of the state. While a Soviet agent, he also has a brief relationship with The Black Widow. The Winter Soldier is kept in a cryogenic stasis when not on missions, and as a result has aged only a few years to a young adult since the closing days of World War II. In 1968, the Winter Soldier was to kill Professor Zhang Chin, whom he had met in WWII. Unfortunately, he was pinned down by an intangible being called The Man with No Face, though he was able to escape. On assignment in the United States in the 1970s, he suffers a breakdown and goes missing for days after assassinating his target. It has also been revealed that as the Winter Soldier he aided in Wolverine's escape from the Weapon X laboratory and later murdered Wolverine's wife Itsu.
In the present day, the Winter Soldier seemingly kills the Red Skull and Jack Monroe (Nomad) under orders from former Soviet general Aleksander Lukin (Karpov's former protégé). The Soldier launches a terrorist attack on Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, killing hundreds, and charges the Cosmic Cube which Lukin sent him to retrieve. He kidnaps Sharon Carter, an agent of the international espionage agency S.H.I.E.L.D. and a former lover of Steve Rogers (Captain America). Upon her rescue, Carter tells Captain America the Soldier looked like Bucky. S.H.I.E.L.D. chief Nick Fury confirms the Winter Soldier's existence, but cannot ascertain his identity.
Captain America tracks down and confronts the Winter Soldier. Upon gaining control of the Cube, he tells the Soldier, "Remember who you are". Regaining his memories, Bucky becomes overwhelmed by guilt over his past actions, crushing the Cosmic Cube and teleporting away.
He reappears shortly afterward in London, England, where he helps Captain America fend off a terrorist attack. He asks Nick Fury for employment and new equipment following the loss of his bionic arm. Following the events of the superhuman Civil War, the Soldier helps Fury plan the escape of an arrested Steve Rogers. Before the plan can be implemented, however, Rogers is assassinated.Considering registration architect Tony Stark (Iron Man) as ultimately responsible, the Soldier plans to kill Stark in revenge. Deducing that Stark will oversee the appointment of a new Captain America, the Soldier steals Captain America's shield from S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Black Widow (his former lover while brainwashed in the Soviet Union) so that it cannot be handed down.Ultimately, he heads to Kronas's headquarters, where Lukin reveals he is the Red Skull and has the evil psychiatrist Dr. Faustus attempt unsuccessfully to brainwash the Winter Soldier.

Bucky as Captain America
After escaping from Faustus and being captured by S.H.I.E.L.D., Barnes learns from Executive Director Tony Stark that Steve Rogers had left Stark a letter asking Stark to watch over Barnes and that the mantle of Captain America should continue. Stark suggests that Barnes become the new Captain America. Barnes agrees to become the new Captain America only if Stark guarantees him complete autonomy. As this arrangement is illegal under the Superhuman Registration Act, Stark keeps his support of the new Captain America secret. As Captain America, Barnes wears a new costume laced with adamantium, and carries a pistol and a combat knife. Barnes' first major adventure as the new Captain America has him, Falcon, Carter and S.H.I.E.L.D. fighting against the original Red Skull and Dr. Faustus who have revived the 1950s Captain America in a plot to secure one of their pawns attaining the US Presidency. Barnes and his allies succeed in aborting the Skull's plans, and Barnes saves the Democratic and Republican presidential candidates from assassination, winning public applause. The adventure ends with Barnes accepting himself and addressing himself now as "Captain America". He also restarts his relationship with Black Widow.
A still-teenaged Barnes is transported from 1941 and appears in the 2008 Avengers/Invaders miniseries alongside his fellow Invaders when a time travel incident takes them from a World War II battlefield to the present-day Marvel Universe, where they encounter both the Mighty Avengers and New Avengers. At the conclusion of Avengers/Invaders #4, while attempting to break out of the S.H.I.E.L.D. helicarrier, which he believes to be a German base, Barnes encounters his future self dressed as Captain America. During this meeting, the future Barnes attempts to change his history by telling his past self to abandon the missile that he was 'killed' trying to disarm, without ever telling his younger self his true identity. Barnes decides to let his life turn out the way it should after witnessing the devastating risks involved in changing history.
