Star Wars Origin Films: Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett.

According to reports, the standalone Star Wars films that are set to be released between each of the main trilogy will be Origin movies featuring characters from the Star Wars universe and their origin stories. Some of the possibilities that have been thrown around for the origin films are Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett. Why is Disney doing this!? I suppose it is an easy cash grab to make entire movies about some of the most popular characters of the franchise. My biggest problem with this entire concept of origin films is that prequels almost never go well. How many prequel movies have been generally considered better than the originals? Basically none! I wish Disney would make a standalone movie about entirely new characters, minor characters in Ep. VI, or adapt a popular expanded universe story, and not make origin stories. Okay, below are my thoughts on each of the possible origin films along with other ideas.
Note: To clarify, I do not want any Star Wars Origins films with the exception of maybe Boba Fett. I am just entertaining the idea for thought.

Han Solo Origins
Among the characters that might receive an origins film, Han Solo is the one that needs it the least. Making a Han Solo: Origins film is the absolutely worst thing that Disney could do outside of a Jar Jar Origins. Han cannot be recast, end of discuss, Han Shot First! No actor will ever be able to live up to Ford's portrayal and why does there even need to be an origins movie? There are no positives to this scenario when there are so many better ideas for Origin films.

Boba Fett Origins
Heck yeah, a Boba Fett movies would be awesome! Since Fett's background has already been covered rather extensively in Ep. II and the Clone Wars, there is absolutely no reason to have the film take place before Ep. III. My preferred idea would be to bring in fan favorite Cad Bane and make a Boba Fett x Cad Bane team up film. The film should take place a few years after Ep. III and be about Boba Fett and Cad Bane hunting the last of the Jedi for the Emperor. If Cad Bane could be pulled off in live-action, the movie could be amazing. Captain: the First Avenger director and original creator of Boba Fett himself, Joe Johnston should direct the film. He has pitched a Boba Fett film in the past, so he knows the character. Even if Cad Bane is not part of the film, just a Boba Fett movie would be awesome. Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison should play Boba Fett. Even though Morrison is a little old for the part, his age could be explained as being a side affect of the cloning process.

Yoda Origins
The idea for a Yoda origins films has been thrown around for sometime now, so it would be not out of the realm of possibility. While a Yoda origins movie would not be my first choice, it does offer the widest range of possible stories since Yoda lived over 900 years and his origins have only been slightly hinted at and covered in minor EU stories. Also Yoda's species does not even have a name, that is how secretive they are about his origins. My biggest concern with a Yoda movie is that it would basically be an animated film, since Yoda would have to be computer animated. Even though Yoda is one of my favorite characters and a movie would not the a bad idea, I find it difficult to grasp
how Disney would pull it off.

Jar Jar Binks Origins
Okay, here is the setup: The movie opens with Jar Jar and about 15 seconds later he is killed by every character in the Star Wars universe. Obviously this is a joke, but if Jar Jar appears in the any of the new movies I shall be angry, unless it is in a clever joke.

Another that could have a cool Origin story would be Mace Windu, and Sam L. is said to be up for it.

What are your thoughts on the possible Star Wars Origin films? Which Star Wars characters deserve an origin story? Pease comment below.

  1. Oh no!!!! No one could EVER be Han Solo other than Harrison Ford! What is Disney THINKING?! I think that a Boba Fett origin would be pretty cool, though. As for Yoda...not so much. Love Yoda, I do, but I don't know how they would make a good movie as him as the main character.

Mace Windu would be very cool as well, but I think that a origin of Qui Gon Jinn would be the most interesting to me.

    1. Exactly, no one could possibly play Solo other than Ford! Qhile I am not a fan of the Yoda movie idea, there are many worse things they could do.

A Qui Gon Jinn movie would be cool!

  2. I'm really not digging the idea of these individual character movies. To me, they seem to cheapen the brand of Star Wars, especially if they turn out mediocre...which I think is about the only thing that they can turn out to be.

I realize Disney wants to make money off their investment, but running a franchise into the ground is not the way to do it. I think people are skeptical enough of the new trilogy, but with these individual stories thrown in there...I'm downright worried for the franchise. Don't get me wrong, I love me some more Star Wars but it kind of loses its magic if we are getting a new Star Wars movie every year for 5-6 years doesn't it?

Could be just my opinion. If I were Disney, I would calm down and take a long term approach. Make two trilogies at the same time; one set after the original trilogy and one set in the Old Republic. Make their narratives mostly separate, but have them connected to each other on major plot points, similar to what LOST did with Flashbacks and Flashforwards. Release a new movie every two years and trade off trilogies. That way, each trilogy gets 4 years between each movie (more than enough time to make it a stellar movie). And then you have 12 years (more than a decade!) of time when you have a considerable amount of revenue from Star Wars movies.

    1. That is the absolute best idea I have heard for the new Star Wars movies. Tying in Old Republic movies and the new ones would be amazing. Dude, you seriously need to be in change of produces movies. The only problem I could see is that three years between movies would be better since the actors would age too much. Thanks for the long comment Jordan!

  3. We already have an Origins story of sorts for Boba Fett. It was called The Star Wars Holiday Special!

I don't think we need Origin films for Star Wars myself. Weren't Episodes I-III Darth Vader Origin stories, and see how well those turned out?

    1. Haha, true, although I wish I could erase all memory of that Holiday Special!

I do not think they are a good idea either, but I was more entertaining the idea.

  4. I really don't like the ideas of Origin stories; it seems like just another way to annihilate the EU even more(the good EU, that is), and for Disney to make even more money on the franchise. Plus, it just wouldn't be as interesting and having to re-cast roles just isn't the way to go(as with Han Solo, for instance).
I do like the PT and the OT equally, but this idea is ridiculous! The Star Wars canon is already so screwed up, I really just wish they'd leave everything alone and just add things to areas of the history that haven't got much written or shown about it.

    1. I agree, unless they are adapting the EU, all of the characters already have backgrounds.

  5. Oh man, soooooooooooo do not want any of those as movies. Not one of those interests me, and I am a gigantic SW fan, dating back to 1977. And you're right, neither prequels nor origin movies are usually any good. Please give us new stories with new characters. I don't need to see any of the old characters. They already have their movies (for better or worse).

    1. Same here, Origin movies are a terrible idea. Unless the old character are just cameos, there is no need to make background stories for the characters.

  6. I'm with you, outside of a Fett standalone film none of those other choices sound like a good idea.

  7. It's news like this that reminds me why I so hated the idea of another Star wars movie in the first place. There's so much uncertainty, and there are more ways for them ruin the franchise then make it better, which makes me so sad. DO NOT SCREW MY FAVORITE FANDOM UP DISNEY.

    1. Yeah, these are not good ideas for the movies. I still think the new trilogy should be good though.

    1. Indeed, a Jar-Jar movie would be awful! By the way, do you have a website for me to check out?

  9. This is not the franchise you're looking for. Unfortunately, hack-writer films about every character in the universe is the only option they have, as they probably haven't got the rights to any of the EU material yet. Oh, and as others have said, there's no need for origin stories in an established universe. Some stories are better if no one explains everything. Good luck star wars fans, you'll need all the force you can get.

    1. Actually, Disney owns everything about Star Wars, including the EU, so that is not an issue. I agree, Origin movies are not a good idea.

  10. I agree!! I think Origin films would just mess up the characters! There is always the slim, slim chance that any Origin films could add a lot of good things to the characters and the franchise, but I think it the chance is so small it would be almost impossible to obtain especially depending on which characters get the Origin films.

I think any origin films should focus more on a group of side characters and their origins instead...like, a few of the Jedi from the Old Republic; Shaak Ti, Mace Windu, and a couple others getting one origin film together. Something like that sounds better to me, but still, they could really ruin it up. I don't know, honestly...it could have potential, but I think it's much more likely that Disney would trash on Star Wars altogether.

  11. Great post! I'd love yo see more Yoda and learn about him. but I think part of his allure is is mysterious nature, which might be somewhat lessened by explanation.
Also, I totally agree on Jar Jar. I'll kill him myself.
