Gotham Commissioner Gordon TV Series

A Gotham TV series following a young Commissioner Gordon before Batman has been green lit and will air on Fox around this time next year. Unlike most DC comics TV series other than Human Target, Gotham will not air on the CW, where Arrow and the upcoming Flash series air, therefore it is not set in the same universe. While it is not been confirmed, the likelihood of the series taking place in the same universe as the new movies is slim, because Warner Bros. really cannot get their stuff together. As for the show, I am cautiously optimistic because a Gotham about Commissioner Gordon is something I have always wanted to see. In the Nolanverse films, Gordon was one of my favorite characters, I actually liked him more than Batman, and he is a great character in the comics. According to sources, the series will feature famous villains from the comics and I hope that they go with the more comic book style to differentiate itself from the Nolanverse's version, but still have a somewhat grounded setting. One of my main concerns is that this is just a quick cash grab to compete with Marvel's Agents of SHIELD. Regardless, I am going to watch the show. Are you excited for the new show? What are your thoughts?

  1. It could be really interesting, but it does sound like a very suspect cash-grab ploy. I guess we'll have to wait and see! :)

  2. I'm not entirely sure it's a cash grab just because it supposedly won't air until 2015.

Either way, I'm about to give up on DC. Whoever is managing their superhero franchises over there is a moron. Marvel even has WAY MORE difficulties with their heroes because so many companies have rights to different ones (i.e. Fox to X-Men and Sony to Spider-man) yet they are wiping the floor with DC and their complete lack of continuity.

Personally, I like the DC heroes better and I like the more serious, dramatic worlds that DC has created lately. But Marvel is whooping their butts when it comes to organization. Soon we might have 2 Flashes, a random Gordon, and a key member of the Justice League who isn't actually in the Justice League (Arrow). It baffles me how dumb they are being with their franchises.

    1. 2015? I must have misread the news, maybe they are taking it seriously.

I think they are intentionally trying to make the most convoluted possible! It would appear that Spider-Man or the X-Men in an Avengers movie is more likely than DC ever getting their stuff together.

DC is good, although outside of the Nolan, MOS, and Arrow, they really have not done very much. But I completely agree, Marvel is way better organized. DC is not even trying.

  3. Wow, another strange turn of events in the cinematic world....

I really liked Gordon as a character so I'm glad someone is doing something with him. At the same time, DC just does not impress me like Marvel does (The Dark Knight was awesome but other then that...), so I'm not excited for it or anything. I suppose I shall wait to form a real opinion till after I see a trailer of it or something...

    1. I know, things have been crazy of late.

I agree, other than Nolan's trilogy, DC does not have a lot going for it.

  4. Idea is interesting but the last 2 properties that were set in the Batman universe without Batman (Birds of Prey, Catwoman...) haven't fared very well. Personally, this sounds like an excuse to sell another crime procedural that litter the TV landscape.

    1. Ouch, I had almost forgotten about the atrocity to all of mankind that was Catwoman, and even though I have not seen Birds of Prey, I do know that the show did not turn out well. Unless the show mixes things up with some comic book stuff, I agree it will be another crime procedural just with the character's name attached.

  5. The latest of DC trying to play catch-up. I only have one question; will Gary Oldman be starring? (I'm guessing no) And if not who will be? (ok, two questions) But anyway, this is mildly interesting. Thanks for sharing!

    1. Yeah, that's basically what they are doing. To my knowledge, Oldman will not be back and no has been cast yet, although it will probably be a younger guy. Thanks for reading!
