Star Wars Ep. 8 Official Release Date Set!

In addition to yesterday's news about the new Star Wars standalone film being titled Rogue One (read more here), Episode VIII has been given the official release date of May 26, 2017, 40 years and one day after the release of the original Star Wars. Sure, considering that Rogue One is set to hit theaters in December you could say that another Star Wars is too early. However, the only reason Episode VII ended up in December is because Disney and other studios already took the summer release dates, and Star Wars is one of the original summer blockbusters, so releasing it in the summer is the perfect time.

On other news, the long rumored Rian Johnson is officially set to direct the film. He did a good job on Looper (and Brick is said to be good), but I still wish that Abrams would continue to direct the films, providing that The Force Awakens is amazing. Well, at least Johnson is a somewhat proven talent, albeit not one that you would expect to direct Star Wars, but of course Marvel took similar risks and they produced incredible results.

What are your thoughts on the release date and director? Please comment below and let me know.

    1. Yeah, it really was good. I haven't seen Brick, but it seems like something I should watch at some point.

  3. I am very excited about Rian Johnson! I've seen all his films (all three of them! Haha) Brick, The Brothers Bloom, and Looper, and they're all so different, but there's something about them that is similar, in the storytelling and the feel, that's so great and I think would suit the SW universe perfectly. :D
