Top 13 Movies of 2014: Part 2

Here is the continuation of the Top 13 Movies that I am most excited for during the year. As stated previously, these are the movies that I am just excited to see and the ones that I will likely watch in theaters for certain.

At Number 6: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1
If you told me that Mockingjay: Part 1 was going to be one of my most anticipated films of 2014 a few months ago, I would say that you are crazy. However, considering how shockingly amazing Catching Fire turned out to be, I am pumped for the sequel!

At Number 5: The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Despite the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 appearing overly bloated with far too many villains, I have hope that director, Marc Web, will be able to balance the many characters effectively, because the last time we had three villains in a Spider-Man movie, it did not turn out so well. At worst, the movie will be a ton of web-slinging fun with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone being one of the best on screen couples in cinema today, and at best will have another Spider-Man film that matches the quality of Spider-Man 2.

At Number 4: Guardians of the Galaxy
The Guardians of the Galaxy is Disney/Marvel's biggest gamble to date. With director James Gunn at the helm, the film will either be an absurdly fun time at the theater that refines what a comic book superhero movie is, or it will be a cheesy fail that audience will not care to see. Hopefully, the movie will turn out amazing, and I cannot wait to see the trailer!

At Number 3: X-Men: Days of Future Past
Days of Future Past has been one of my most highly anticipated upcoming films since I heard the story was going to be adapted into a film. The film will bring together both the original group of X-Men alongside the First Class group of X-Men for a hopefully awesome movie. My biggest concern is that the film will be so packed with characters that none of them are developed beyond Wolverine, but if anyone can do it, it is Bryan Singer.

At Number 2: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Until the trailer for The Winter Soldier, I was almost dreading the movie because Captain America set in the modern world is incredibly difficult to pull off, and since he is my favorite character, I did not want to see the character portrayed poorly. However, the trailer took away all of my concerns because it looks amazing! If they follow the original Winter Soldier storyline, film could turn out to be the best of Marvel's Phase 2.

At Number 1: The Hobbit: There and Back Again
Of course I was going to have There and Back Again number one on the list. Since Desolation Smaug will hopefully turn out to be the best movie of last year, I have high hopes that There and Back Again will continue the trend. On a side note, I will hopefully be able to see Desolation of Smaug Thursday and I should have the review ready by next week, so be sure to look for that.

2014 is shaping up to be a fun year with even more geeky movies than last year. Both superhero movies and animated ones are looking to have a great year. Considering that 2013 had no animated movies that I was interested in outside of The Wind Rises and Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, 2014 looks as though we will be getting the best in animation in a very long time, and Pixar is not even making a movie!

Of the movies that will be released next year, there are at least six that I am definitely seeing in the theater, which are the top six, and a few more like Interstellar, The Lego Movie, and Big Hero 6 that I might watch in the theater if they receive positive reviews. Hopefully 2014 will not disappoint! Below are some honorable mentions: Jupiter Ascending, RoboCop, Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, 300: Rise of an Empire, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Divergent, Exodus, The Expendables 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,

Pleas note about the honorable mentions, I am not necessarily excited for the movie, but rather how the movie will turn out like the RoboCop and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies because I interested in the property that the movie is based.

What are your most anticipated films of 2014? I am sure that I have forgotten a film. Please comment below and let me know.

  1. So you've also seen the other Madoka Magica movies? Rebellion is a story outside of the original material. If you want to know the real story behind Madoka Magica, you can watch the first two movies, or the series (TV episodes) itself.

You know what, because of this list (part 1 and part 2), I've realized that there is actually a recurring pattern in Hollywood films nowadays. Book adaptations, comic book adaptations, etc, as if they're not even trying to create new franchises.

    1. Actually, I am still waiting for the American release of Rebellion, but I just finished the final episode of the series an hour or two after after you commented, and it was fantastic. I definitely want to see the Rebellion now. I wanted to mention it since it is at the top of my watch list, but I did not know it was set outside of the series, thanks for the info.

Yes, that is a fair and accurate assessment of Hollywood. Last did have Gravity and Pacific Rim, which were both original, although Pacific Rim was somewhat of an Evenagelion ripoff.

  2. Great choices!! :D All those listed about are ones I am looking forward to seeing(I knew I had forgotten a couple in earlier comment). It is definitely looking to be a good year for movies and I can't wait to see them! :D
Hope you enjoy The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug when you go and see it, I really enjoyed it! :D

  3. There and Back Again is my number 1 too, with Mockingjay following VERY closely, but definitely looking forward to all of these! Since Guardians of the Galaxy looks at first like something that wouldn't really work as a movie, and since they're keeping everything about it so close to the vest, it seems like at this point it couldn't be anything but a complete success. I certainly hope so! :D

    1. I agree, Guardians does not look like it would work, at least not from what they have revealed. I hope a trailer is released in the near future. :)

  4. Strong list. My personal most anticipated are X-Men, Guardians, interstellar (of course haha), and Hobbit.

But seriously though...I'm not sure I can wait until 2015.

    1. Thanks Jordan. Good picks for your list. I am not sure what to expect with Interstellar, but that is mostly the reason why I am excited for it.

2015 should be beyond awesome with all of the movies out!

  6. I'm looking forward to nearly all of these; I kinda could care less about the X-Men movie right now and since I know nothing about Guardians of the Galaxy, I'm not hyped for it either. I am FREAKING DYING to see The Winter Soldier and Mocking Jay 1!!

Sorry I haven't commented recently; I've been sick with a cold since Thursday evening and I haven't seen the latest SHIELD episode and I wanted to avoid all spoilers--I think you get the picture. Anyway; I'm finally feeling a lot better then I was and today is my first day out of bed and dressed so I wanted to be sure and comment today!!

I hope you are not being killed by your school!

    1. The Winter Soldier is going to be so good, or at least I hope so!

That's fine, I hope you continue to feel better. I hope you enjoy the AOS episode, as well as the one that aired last night. It was good too. ;)

Nope, school is definitely killing me.
