Top 13 Movies of 2014: Part 2

Here is the continuation of the Top 13 Movies that I am most excited for during the year. As stated previously, these are the movies that I am just excited to see and the ones that I will likely watch in theaters for certain.

At Number 6: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay: Part 1
If you told me that Mockingjay: Part 1 was going to be one of my most anticipated films of 2014 a few months ago, I would say that you are crazy. However, considering how shockingly amazing Catching Fire turned out to be, I am pumped for the sequel!

At Number 5: The Amazing Spider-Man 2
Despite the trailer for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 appearing overly bloated with far too many villains, I have hope that director, Marc Web, will be able to balance the many characters effectively, because the last time we had three villains in a Spider-Man movie, it did not turn out so well. At worst, the movie will be a ton of web-slinging fun with Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone being one of the best on screen couples in cinema today, and at best will have another Spider-Man film that matches the quality of Spider-Man 2.

At Number 4: Guardians of the Galaxy
The Guardians of the Galaxy is Disney/Marvel's biggest gamble to date. With director James Gunn at the helm, the film will either be an absurdly fun time at the theater that refines what a comic book superhero movie is, or it will be a cheesy fail that audience will not care to see. Hopefully, the movie will turn out amazing, and I cannot wait to see the trailer!

At Number 3: X-Men: Days of Future Past
Days of Future Past has been one of my most highly anticipated upcoming films since I heard the story was going to be adapted into a film. The film will bring together both the original group of X-Men alongside the First Class group of X-Men for a hopefully awesome movie. My biggest concern is that the film will be so packed with characters that none of them are developed beyond Wolverine, but if anyone can do it, it is Bryan Singer.

At Number 2: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Until the trailer for The Winter Soldier, I was almost dreading the movie because Captain America set in the modern world is incredibly difficult to pull off, and since he is my favorite character, I did not want to see the character portrayed poorly. However, the trailer took away all of my concerns because it looks amazing! If they follow the original Winter Soldier storyline, film could turn out to be the best of Marvel's Phase 2.

At Number 1: The Hobbit: There and Back Again
Of course I was going to have There and Back Again number one on the list. Since Desolation Smaug will hopefully turn out to be the best movie of last year, I have high hopes that There and Back Again will continue the trend. On a side note, I will hopefully be able to see Desolation of Smaug Thursday and I should have the review ready by next week, so be sure to look for that.

2014 is shaping up to be a fun year with even more geeky movies than last year. Both superhero movies and animated ones are looking to have a great year. Considering that 2013 had no animated movies that I was interested in outside of The Wind Rises and Madoka Magica the Movie: Rebellion, 2014 looks as though we will be getting the best in animation in a very long time, and Pixar is not even making a movie!

Of the movies that will be released next year, there are at least six that I am definitely seeing in the theater, which are the top six, and a few more like Interstellar, The Lego Movie, and Big Hero 6 that I might watch in the theater if they receive positive reviews. Hopefully 2014 will not disappoint! Below are some honorable mentions: Jupiter Ascending, RoboCop, Maleficent, Edge of Tomorrow, 300: Rise of an Empire, Transformers: Age of Extinction, Divergent, Exodus, The Expendables 3, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles,

Pleas note about the honorable mentions, I am not necessarily excited for the movie, but rather how the movie will turn out like the RoboCop and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movies because I interested in the property that the movie is based.

What are your most anticipated films of 2014? I am sure that I have forgotten a film. Please comment below and let me know.

Top 13 Movies of 2014: Part 1

With so many highly anticipated movies coming out in 2015 like Star Wars: Ep. 7 and The Avengers: Age of Ultron, many are neglecting the upcoming 2014 lineup. Even though it might not look nearly as impressive, there are several new movies that are coming out in 2014 that will hopefully not disappoint. For my list, these picks are strictly the movies that I am most excited to see and I hope to see most of them in theaters. 2014 will undoubtedly feature smaller movies that have yet to be promoted very much or ones that will be coming out in late 2014, which I have not heard much about, therefore most of these picks are bigger blockbuster movies and ones that are based on previously established proprieties and sequel. Please do not forget to enter my giveaway! At Number 13: Godzilla
Before the awesome new trailer hit the internet, Godzilla was not on my radar of must see movies of 2014, but wow, that trailer makes the movie look a lot better than expected. Considering that Bryan Cranston, Ken Watanabe, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson are all staring the film there is hope that America will want to see another Kaiju flick. Also, director Gareth Edwards is new when it comes to blockbusters, maybe he will deliver the goods.

At Number 12: How to Train Your Dragon 2
Since the first How to Train Your Dragon turned out to be such a surprisingly great movie, How to Train Your Dragon 2 will hopefully improve upon the previous entry. The trailer suggests a slightly darker tone and more action this time around with Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington voicing the main villain.

At Number 11: Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Rise of the Planet of the Apes turned out to be one of the better movies of 2011, and let us hope that Andy Serkis will do it again in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. The trailer actually impressed me quite a bit, and considering that I am a fan of the original fan, I am excited to see where this apes film goes.

At Number 10: Big Hero 6
Big Hero 6 is Marvel's first animated feature by Disney animation. In the comics, Big Hero 6 is about a superhero team formed by the Japanese government, but in the film, the team will be set in an amalgam of Tokyo and San Francisco. Beyond a short clip of the city that it will take place in, not much of Big Hero 6 has been revealed. Considering that Disney Animation is coming off of two movies that rival even Pixar's critical success, Wreck-Ralph and Frozen, I have high hopes that the combination of Marvel and Disney Animation will result in one heck of an animated film. In addition, since Big Hero 6 is set in Japanese, the comic is heavily influenced by Japanese animation (aka anime) and manga, which could, if the film is successful, lead to anime becoming a little more mainstream as unlikely as that may be. Below is the test footage for the film, although no fully rendered character models have been released.

At Number 9: The Lego Movie
The Lego Movie is going to be awesome! If the movie is as good as the trailers, we are in for a nice treat. I loved Legos as a kid, and I am sure just about everyone loves Legos, so the movie has a lot riding on it since we will also have several DC characters make appearances including Batman, who looks as though he will be hilarious! The Lego Movie will likely be the first animated film that I will see in theaters since I was a kid.

At Number 8: Interstellar
Christopher Nolan returns to directing with his first original film since Inception, Interstellar. Reportedly, Interstellar is about space and time-travel, but you would not know that from the teaser that hit the internet a weeks ago. With Matthew McConaughey and Anne Hathaway set to star in the film, hopefully Nolan can impress us again. Right now, it is the second biggest wild card of the year for me after Big Hero 6.

At Number 7: Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo
Now, 98% if not 100% of you are probably wonder what Evangelion: 3.0 is about. The way to describe the film is that it the thinking man's Pacific Rim. Evangelion: 3.0 You Can (Not) Redo is the third film in the Rebuild of Evangelion series that remakes the Neon Genesis Evangelion TV series with several key differences to the original. Technically, the film was released last year, however it is not until later this month that the movie will have a limited theatrical run in America. Unfortunately however, the chances that a theater within reasonable distance will actually be showing the film is slim, which means I will have to wait until later to watch the movie. Sometime in the future expect reviews of the first two movies in the series as well as a review of the original series.

Are you looking forward to any of the movies on my list? What are some of your most anicipated movies of 2014? Please comment below.

Looking Ahead in 2014

2014 will hopefully be another awesome year for geeks and for blogging. Here is a list of various things that I look forward to in coming year, however it will not feature the movies that are coming out next year because that is another post entirely. These picks are things that I am looking forward to like television, news on 2015 movies, video games, and other things in general that I am excited about. Also the list is in no particular order.

Star Wars: Episode VII News and Teaser Trailer
Without a doubt, any news regarding Star Wars: Episode VII is the thing that I most excited for in 2014. Eventually, Abrams and crew have to cast the movie at some point. The waiting for more details is getting absurd! At least we know that the movie will be released in December of 2015.

Sherlock Season 3
After almost two years of waiting and Sherlock season three is almost here! If you live in the UK, you have probably already seen the first episode, but we Americans still have to wait a little while longer. Even though I have tried to avoid as many spoilers as possible, I but I really hope that something that happened in season two is explained in detail in the first episode.

The New Doctor
Matt Smith's brilliant run as the Doctor has come to a close, however Peter Capaldi looks as though he will do an excellent job in the role. Hopefully he will have the right amount of seriousness and humor, and let's hope the writing for the next season make more sense. Too bad we have to until the fall season before we get more Doctor Who. Also, look for an entire post about what I want to see in the next season of Doctor Who.

Coulson's Secret on Agents of SHIELD
After an unexpected twist in the Agents of SHIELD mid-season finale, we might actually discover how Coulson survived his encounter with the "Asgardian Mussolini." Considering that Centipede wants him, it would seem likely that he is not an LMD (robot) as we have previous speculated. Maybe he was brought back partially with science and partially with magic.

The Walking Dead Returns
After becoming a fan of the Walking Dead television series last year, I am eagerly awaiting the second half of season four. Most likely, I will try and review each episode as it airs similarly to how I review Agents of SHIELD weekly. Hopefully there will be enough people interested to make the reviews worth writing.

Attack on Titan's English Dub
Before any sub fans go ballistic and start screaming that I should just watch the sub, I have a very good reasoning behind waiting. My brother is not a fan of anime at all. I have tried to get him to watch Sword Art Online, which he liked for a short time and then stopped watching, but Attack on Titan seems like the type of series that we will both enjoy, and he will only watch dubs. Other than that reason, Funimation almost always makes excellent dubs, and considering that Attack on Titan is the most popular modern anime right now, I doubt that they will deliver something low quality.

Avengers: Age of Ultron Trailer
With Avengers: Age of Ultron being released in the summer of next year, one would think a trailer, or at least a teaser, will be released before the year's end. In all likelihood, a teaser could be attached in front of Guardians of the Galaxy. Aside from Star Wars: Episode VII, Age of Ultron is easily my most anticipated film of next year.

Halo 5 and the Xbox One
With the recent release of the next generation of consoles, Halo 5 was announced, which makes me excited to see what happens next in the series. Other than Mass Effect, the Halo series is my favorite video game franchise, and considering the ending of Halo 4, I have to know what happens next in the story. Additionally, I am hoping for a slight price cut of the absurdly overpriced Xbox One during the Holiday season later this year, which is when I will most likely buy the console.

Man of Steel/Batman vs. Superman Trailer
Since the announcement that Wonder Woman will make appearance in the Man of Steel sequel, aka "Half-a**ed Attempt at a Justice League Movie," my expectations for the movie, whatever it will be named, are uncertain. In the near future, I hope to have a full post discussing the future of the DC cinematic universe and how poorly Warner Brothers and DC are handling it at this point. Despite this, let's hope that the trailer will suppress our doubts when it is released later next year.

Mass Effect 4 News
Despite the infamous ending of Mass Effect 3, I still love the franchise and it is my all-time video game franchise. A few images of Mass Effect 4 have been released and they suggest a possible prequel, which would seem like the best idea considering what happened at the end of Mass Effect 3. According to sources, news on the game is likely to be released in the coming months.

What are you looking forward to the most in 2014? Please comment below and let me know. Also please check back tomorrow for a special Sherlock surprise.
