Here is part 2 of my 2013 film preview. Before I continue with the preview, I wanted to say that I finished film the Q and A video answering your questions Sunday and might have the video up as soon as Thursday.
April
42 Jackie Robinson
42 is about Jackie Robinson the first baseball player to break the color in a major sport. I love baseball, particularly baseball history with the exception of the music used in the trailer above I think it is a great trailer. Finally a high quality baseball film based around real fact, plus Harrison Ford looks a lot like Dodgers own Branch Ricky.
Oblivion
Not sure what to think about the trailer, but with Tom Cruise and Morgan Freeman it could actually be a decent movie. It is one of the few movies were the movie producers wrote a comic book before the film was released to set it up. Interesting concept but considering the low sells on the first issue, it probably will not work effectively.

Iron Man 3
Finally, a movie that I am truly looking forward to seeing. Featuring one of the best trailers in recent memory and based on one of Iron Man's best comic book runs should be the film of the Summer. It is also the first in Marvel's phase two after The Avengers. This is the first film on this preview list that I will definitely be watching it in theaters.
Star Trek: Into Darkness
In 2009 J.J. Abrams made a fun, more action heavy reboot of the Star Trek franchise, which I recommend, Into Darkness is his long awaited sequel with the always awesome Benedict Cumberbatch. Cumberbatch is the star of BBC's Sherlock mini-series and he should be an excellent villain in the up-coming film. Outside of the Hobbit and comic book based movies, I am looking forward to this the most.

Man of Steel
The trailer looks promising but Zack Snyder previous movies, Watchmen and 300, were more style than substance and relied on the popularity of Watchmen's source material rather than anything new. Kevin Costner appears to be perfectly casted in the role of "Pa" Kent. Maybe we will finally get the Superman Vs. General Zod smack-down we have been waiting for with today's current technology. Expect more opinions and posts about the Man of Steel closer to its release.
World War Z
World War Z is another movie that was delayed and required some re-shooting. I hate zombie movies, I just do not get the fascination with shows like "The Walking Dead", however World War Z looks like a decent action thriller, probably worth a rent.
Monsters University
End of the World
End of the World stars Emma Watson, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Seth Rogan as themselves. There is little information about the film but it is a post-apocalyptic comedy with the actors playing themselves as the world ends. Providing it is not premeditated with constant swearing, it could be an hilarious movie.

I am looking forward to 42, both b/c it is a great story and b/c I am a solid Dodger fan. I am also having a lot of fun anticipating Man of Steel, and even IM3, mostly b/c i want to see him lose for a while...;/. Last year i would have said I'm happy about Monster's university, but after seeing Brave, I have serious doubts about whether they are still any good...
ReplyDeleteAside from Looper, 2012 was weak for sci fi fans. Now I do not consider comic book adaptations to be sci fi. The avengers and batman were first class, but not sci fi in my universe.
ReplyDeleteI'm really looking forward to the Iron Man 3 film and Star Trek: Into Darkness; I hope Man of Steel will be good and Oblivion looks pretty interesting.
ReplyDeleteI'm really excited for Iron Man 3...the trailer was amazing...and Man of Steel looks really great. Other than that, I don't plan on seeing any of the other ones. :)
ReplyDeleteI am of course dying for Iron Man 3---PEPPER AND TONY ARE MY BABIES!!!!!!!! *cough* Sorry. I'm just a little attached. :D
ReplyDeleteI would like to see Man of Steel as it will probably be the only Superman movie that I would enjoy seeing but I don't think I'll see it in theaters.
42 looks pretty good as well.
And I'm dying for Monsters University, I have high hopes for it. Not sure if I'll see it in 3D (I'm guessing their releasing it in 3D) but I took Kayla to see Monsters Inc in 3D and that was a lot of fun.
And I wish Marvel would release some sort of trailer for Thor 2!

I look forward to Iron Man 3, Star Trek into Darkness and Man of Steel. Summer 2013 looks promising!
ReplyDeleteOblivion and Iron Man 3 both look great. Into Darkness, eh... They really put me off with their recent poster which was a direct rip off of The Dark Knight poster. I could be good maybe. Really looking forward to Monsters University, actually. :)
ReplyDelete@JT: Since the Dodgers now have one of the highest payrolls in the league, they look like a formidable team. Thanks for your opinions on the films. :)
ReplyDelete@Steve: I too, do not consider comic book sci-fi and I agree sci-fi was rather weak last year. Hopefully 2013 can be better.
@Shena Tokala: Me too, Iron Man 3 should rock. :D I agree Man of Steel looks great.
@Jamie: LOL, I love your emotional reactions about the Avengers' character! :D The old Superman movies were good for their time but don't hold up to well. I agree there needs to be a Thor 2 trailer released! Also please don't die, you won't be able to see the movies! lol
@B2B: Indeed it does!
@Jake P: I agree Star Trek is ripping off TDKR poster. It looks also exactly like it!

Man of Steel and Iron Man 3 I really CANNOT wait for!!!
ReplyDeleteIron Man is my favorite Avenger and I love Robert Downey Jr.
And Chirs Nolan is making Man of Steel and I have never seen one of his movies I didn't like. He does superheroes like none other.
It'll be awesome!
