2013 Movie Preview Part 1.

While it will be difficult to top last year's line-up of films, 2013 is sure to have solid films and hopefully some great ones. Here part 1 of a preview featuring films that I have some interest in order of when they are going to be released. While I have a general rule not to judge a movie by its trailer or even watch trailers, that is the only way a film can be judged until it is released.

Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters

Never have had an interest in the original story but Jeremy Renner is great and it could have some good action. However, it appears that it will be mediocre at best, probably will be full of cliches and corny effect.

A Good Day to Die Hard (5)

Although every other Die Hard sequel has been sub-par and completely over-the-top, maybe A Good Day to Die Hard can break that trend. Either way, it is sure to have awesome action scenes and Bruce Willis doing what he does best. Also be sure to look for some Die Hard reviews leading up to the release of the film.

Oz: The Great and Powerful

I have not actually seen the Wizard of Oz movie, however I have seen the mini series "Tin Man", which was entertaining. Considering that it is directed by Sam Raimi, who directed the original Spider-Man trilogy, it should be fun. The trailer makes me interested to watch the original Oz movie. Also the choice to obviously film the beginning of the movie in black and white like the original Oz is a bold idea.

G.I. Joe: Retaliation

Originally G.I. Joe Retaliation was set to be released last year, after the decision to post-convert it to 3D and re-film some of the movie from the audience reaction in the screenings last year. At least they are trying to make a decent movie, it will be difficult to top the terribleness of the first G.I. Joe movie. Sure this is going to be a dumb action movie, maybe it can at least be a fun dumb action movie.

Jack the Giant Slayer

The facts that Ewan McGregor will be in the movie and X-Men director by Bryan Singer seems like a good combo but this looks excruciatingly corny, similar to the awful Three Musketeers movie. However, it could be a decent movie, you never know.

Jurassic Park 3D
Yet another 3D re-release, this time of Steve Spielberg's classic groundbreaking action thriller Jurassic Park. I still do not understand why people want to watch old movies in 3-D when you could buy it on DVD/Blu-Ray for the same price as the theater ticket. Unless it is your favorite movie ever made, like Empire Strikes Back. I wouldn't even consider watching the Lord of the Rings in 3-D since I have already seen in theaters when they were originally released.
What are your thoughts on the up-coming movies in 2013? Please comment below and check back tomorrow part 2. Also an update on the video Q&A, we filmed it yesterday and all we need know is a lot of editing.

  1. I'm really not too thrilled with the movies of this year, but last year I wasn't too thrilled, either, other than by the really good blockbusters like the Avengers and the Hobbit.

Hensel and Grettel looks too action-y to me, and as a person who likes fairy-tales, that just doesn't sit well with me. I liked Snow White and the Huntsman for the fact that it portrayed a fairy-tale well as far as the grittiness (a lot of them are not very pretty), but this one just looks like a "blow in all up" film.

I am excited to see "Oz: The Great and Powerful" though. The Wizard of Oz is an old favorite of mine, and I love Wicked to pieces, but I'm hoping that they don't mess Oz up in the film.

Jack the Giant Slayer looks like it might be a good one, too. There sure are a lot of fairy-tale films coming out!

  2. I also want to see most of these on your list, though I probably won't see GI Joe.

Kayla is dying to see Witch Hunters and I really hope I can take her to see it when it comes out. Hopefully it won't be rated too high.

I'm dying for the Oz movie, it's looks spectacular. The original movie was okay and of pretty cheesy but the trailer for this film is jaw-dropping. And I love to see the actor for Spidy's friend, Harry, act in a different role!

I've never see Jurassic Park so I really hope I can go see it at least in 2D when it comes out.

  3. I'm really looking forward to Man Of Steel, but Oz: The Great and Powerful looks fascinating. But I can't wait for the release of The Dark Knight Returns part 2.

  4. @Alexandra Lanc: I agree, Hensel and Grettel looks almost B-movie. I am sure the dialogue will mostly terrible, plus its being released in Janurary, that's never a good sign for a film.
I will have to watch the Wizard of Oz before this is realeased then. Not to thrilled about Jack the Giant Slayer because it looks like a lot like the terrible Three Musketeers from 2011 but you never know.
I actually did not notice that, but you are right there are a ton of them.

@Jamie: A little surprised you want to see Witch Hunters but it does look like it might be R rated. :/ The trailer is even in 3D when I saw the Hobbit! James Franco is a great actor, he was also good in Rise of the Planet of the Apes. You might enjoy Jurassic Park, the effect hold up surprising well.

@Jake P: While I hope the Man of Steel does well, I am not the most excited for it because Zack Sndyer is directing it and he has yet to make a great film. Closest was Watchmen but I would hardly recommend it. Oh yeah, I forgot about Dark Knight Returns, I need to watch Part 1.

  5. Maybe, but Christopher Nolan is also working on it, so...
