Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 Review

As usual there are no spoilers in this review even if you have not seen the previous movies in the franchise.
Thoughts: Wow! Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 was amazing! While I did really enjoy the previous entries in the series, they were very good yet not true classic movies but the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 on the other hand was an amazing conclusion that satisfied on every level. The action was amazing and the story concluded better than I thought it could. The big reveal was mostly unexpected, and made one of my favorite characters even better. This is easily the best Fantasy movie since The Lord of the Rings trilogy (does not include comic book movies). Also the pacing of the Deathly Hallows Part 2 was excellent, especially compared to the other Harry Potter movies. In the previous Part 1 of the Deathly Hallows, it ended were you expect the best part of the movie to begin and Part 2 opened directly were the previous movie ended. The first 30 minutes were good but not really spectacular. However, after the first 30 minutes and what happened in the previous movie setup for the end. Everything came to an end better than I could have imagined. The only flaw was that it might have tried to fit too much in the last 30 minutes of the movie and really did not explain everything as well as it could have. Also if you have not watched the previous movies and played close attention, you will probably be lost in the plot. The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 had had the best action in the franchise, by far. The action was edge of your seat suspenseful and stunning at the same time. During one sequence in particular you almost felt like you were in the fight with the characters. The tone of the film was different from the previous film; it was more epic and a sense of war to it. Although the previous Harry Potter movies ranged from good to great, they all pale in comparisons to this film. After the huge setup throughout the franchise this is the pay off that you deserve. I am glad that the Deathly Hallows book was split into two movies, because this really worked. The three main characters, Harry, Ron and Hermione are excellent well developed characters that you really cannot help but like them. I have literally watched them grow up through the eight movies. Basically at this point in the franchise you either like the franchise as a whole and enjoy watching your favorite characters in the movie or you really never understood the franchise. From a completely un-bias stand point of watching all of the movies over the course of 2 months, I can say that I am a casual fan of the movies, although, I have no plan to read the books.

The Good: Epic battle sequences, More than satisfying conclusion, Amazing cinematography, Excellent performances from the whole cast, Shocking plot twist, Great soundtrack, Suspenseful action,

The Bad:

Plot: Since Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 picks up directly were Part 1 left a plot summery is not really necessary and would only spoil the plot.

Plot: 9.6/10- The conclusion was everything that I wanted it to be and more. Pacing of the plot was great, with the right amount of story, plot progression and action.

Action: 9.3/10- The battle at the end was epic and one of the best battle sequences I have seen. Although the lighting in some scenes could have been a little better. As I stated above, during one sequence I almost felt I was right there in the action.

Acting: 9.5/10- Every actor in the movie was excellent, with Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint really stepping up their performances to another level. Also Alan Rickman gave an fantastic Oscar worthy performance.

Special effects: 9.3/10- The effect during the battle were stunning and CGI creatures looked really good. But a few of the scenes tried to do too much and really did not look great.

Soundtrack: 9.0/10- The Deathly Hallows: Part 2 has the best Harry Potter soundtrack since John Williams left the series but still used the classic theme at the right time.

Comedy: 7.0/10- Despite the dark tone and action, there was a surprising amount of well timed humor that did not distract from the movie.

Would I Watch This Again: I most definitely will watch it again, many times. I have already watched it twice and watched the battle scenes a few more times.

Overall: 9.5/10- Overall Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is a truly fantastic movie that delivers on the story, action, and more. It is one of the best fantasy movies ever made.

Closing comments: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 is a more than satisfying conclusion to the a great series of movies.

  1. Fantastic review! :D :D. Very glad you enjoyed the movie; I agree, it was definitely the best of the franchise. I'm also glad they split it into two films, I was really glad when I heard they were going to do that. I agree with pretty much all you put into the review. I agree, the actors were all epic in this installment; Alan Rickman totally rocked in this film, he's definitely an actor I'd love to work with someday. I loved how they ended the film, it was just how it was in the book :)I know what you mean about the characters, you really do watch them grow up in this series; I remember when I was reading the books and watching the films, I wanted to be friends with Harry, Ron, and Hermione.
Glad you enjoyed the films :)

  3. I hated the pacing of the first part because there was so much dialogue, depressing themes and obsessed hulcrux hunting. The second part was much better, but I would have preferred less part one, and more part two detail like you say here. I watched it in the theater, and again on my iPhone, but I would like to buy the movie to see both parts again more seriously. I use the Dish Remote Access App I downloaded on my iPhone, along with the Sling Adapter a Dish co-worker gave me a few years ago. I get the live or recorded programming through the internet from my “Sling”. It’s sweet because I watch more TV than I otherwise would have.
