Here is the Top 25 Avengers list. This includes all members from the original Avengers that started in the 60s, and the various other Avengers teams also including, The New Avengers, the West Coast Avengers, Secret Avengers, Dark Avengers, and others. The ranking are more based on how important of an Avenger that character is to the team. For example a character like Spider-Man, who is a member of The New Avengers, would rank second on the list if I was rating by how good of a hero that character is, however he is not one of the early members of the team so he only ranking 5th on the list. Also early and founding members rank higher short time members of the team. This is based more on the comic book version of the character and less on the movie version. There are around 75 to 100 different Avengers through out the years but I have narrowed them down to just 25.
Note: I made this before watching The Avengers movie so I would not infuenced by it, except for the part Black Widow, which I wrote after The Avengers.
At Number 25: Quicksliver
Son of the infamous Magneto and former villain of the X-Men. He later reformed and became one of the first Avengers during the first recruitment drive in the 60s. Although it would be his sister that Wand, aka Scarlett Witch, that would make the biggest impact on team.
At Number 24: She-Hulk
She-Hulk is actually the cousin of Bruce Banner, aka the Hulk. Through a blood transfusion to save her life with her cousin Bruce gave her Hulk like abilities without the angry management problems.
At Number 23: The Thing
Although he is better know for his time with the Fantastic Four The Thing is a member of the New Avengers. If I were ranking best heroes not best Avengers he would rank much higher on the list.
At Number 22: Wonder Man
One of the lesser known Avengers despite making a sizable impact, Wonder Man has been a villain of The Avengers and a important team member.
At Number 21: Black Knight
Carrying the Ebony Blade forged by the Wizard Merlin, which makes its user unkillable. Black Knight is a formidable member of The Avengers and joined the team in the late 60s.
At Number 20: Hercules
And you thought that Thor and Asgard were the only characters from mythology that are also Marvel characters. Just like Thor the Asardians, Hercules and his fellow Olympians are to a lesser degree a part of the Marvel Universe. There is even a portal to Olympia in the Nine Relms of Asgard.
At Number 19: Spider-Woman
A former agent of H.Y.D.R.A., and the daughter of one of H.Y.D.R.A.'s leaders. She is member of both The New Avengers and the original Avengers team.
At Number 18: War Machine
James "Rhodey" Rhodes has wore both the Iron Man armor and War Machine as an Avenger and would be a likely candidate for a Avengers sequel.

O__O a She-Hulk!? For some reason that just sounds wrong! LOL! How interesting they use Hercules; I had no idea about that. And yay, I like War Machine! It would be interesting to see him come back in a Iron Man sequel. :D

@Jamie: She-Hulk is a surprisingly good character in the comics although she would not work in a movie.
ReplyDeleteHercules is not very well known outside of the comic book fans for being part of Marvel. I hope War Mechine comes back too. :D
-James
Like the inclusion of War Machine. He was a central team member of the West Coast Avengers for awhile.
ReplyDeleteMore recently he was on the Secret Avengers, but they never seemed to have a use for him.
@Banon: Thanks for the comment. I hope he is used better in the next Avengers movie.
