Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies: Part 6

The Top 25 Sci-Fi Movies list now comes to an end! These are the 5 Sci-Fi films that rise up all others. These are the best of the best! Now, let's get started!

5: Aliens
James Cameron’s Aliens is one of the most thrilling and pulse-pounding film experiences ever made. While the first Alien film created the Xenomorph creature and established the concept, Cameron's Aliens exceeded the original film by combining the thrills of the original with incredible special effects and edge-of-your-seat action sequences. Aliens also established Ellen Ripley as one of film's greatest female protagonists of all-time. How could Aliens not be among the best sci-fi films of all-time!?
Aliens (1986) Review.

4: Terminator 2: Judgment Day
Before Titanic and Avatar, James Cameron actually made a few freaking awesome sci-fi films and there are none better T2. Deciding between Aliens and T2 for my favorite Cameron flick was not easy, but after some deliberation, T2 came out on top, partially due to the fact that it has been one of my favorite movies ever since I was a kid. Despite T2 being known for its revolutionary CGI, it is the heavy use of practical effects during the action sequences that make it hold up so well today. Few action films today can match the level of action direction of T2, and yet it never forgets the characters by including a healthy dosage of heart.

3: The Matrix
The Matrix blew my mind with its combination of sci-fi philosophy and sequences that remain unmatched in western films. Despite being more than 15 years old, everything holds up in the Matrix today as well it did years ago, and many of themes are all the more relevant to today's increasingly technological society. Unfortunately, the Wachowskis were never able to recapture the Matrix's greatest in the sequels or any other film.

2: Inception
Yet another mind-blowing and mind-bending experience on my list, Inception is the film that literally launched my film critiquing hobby. Christopher Nolan is at his unquestionable best with Inception in all aspects. For the first time in his films, he manages to craft characters that you genuinely care that get caught up in a plot with more twists and turns than one can count. While not everything about the concept and plot is the most original, the way Nolan used the concept of dreams to move the plot forward is unique and inventive. Will Nolan ever be able to top his masterpiece? That remains to be seen.

1: Star Wars Saga
How could there be any other? Without Star Wars, half of the films on this list would have never been possible for technological, inspirational, and financial reasons. Star Wars showed Hollywood that science fiction is a viable genre. It elevated the Science Fiction genre to new heights never seen before! Not since the early days of film has a movie or franchise made such an impact on the culture of the world than Star Wars.

Since the Original Trilogy would have taken up the Top 3 spots on the list, I opted to include the franchise as a whole so that more sci-fi films could make the list. Of course, The Empires Strikes Back would top the list with the original Star Wars not far behind. With the new Star Wars films on the horizon, let us all hope that Star Wars will rise yet again to its former glory!

Well, that concludes my list of the Top 25 Sci-Fi films of all-time! At a later date, I will write up something about the 25+ Honorable Mentions that almost made the list. So, what do you think of my list? Please comment below and let me know! Thanks for reading everyone and if you missed one of the previous parts, click on the links below.

Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles Part 3: 15-11.

Here is part 3 of the Top 25 Lightsaber duels list. Click on the links below for the previous parts of the list.

Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles Part 1: 25-21
Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles Part 2: 20-16

At Number 15: General Krell Vs. the 501st

Although this fight features no Saber on Saber action, Krell is awesome as he slaughters the Clones with his two duel bladed Lightsabers. The 501st have their first training on how to kill Jedi before their assault on the Jedi Temple in Revenge of the Sith. Again a very inventive scene using the environment to enhance the action.

At Number 14: Emperor Vs. Windo and Jedi
The Emperor finally reveals himself to the Jedi and this is the first time that we get to see The Emperor's Lightsaber fighting style. In a way it reminds me of Yoda in how he jumps around but did he plan to lose to Windo? Because if he could defeat the Emperor Yoda should have defeated him easily. Although we are talking about Samuel L. (FREAKING AWESOME) Jackson, he could kill just about anyone (that was a joke).

At Number 13: Obi-Wan Vs. Maul and Opress (Revival)

Note: The Fight which I am including on the starts around 2:18 on the video, not the parts before that.
Never before have I seen Obi-Wan use two Lightsabers but he is awesome at wielding them. While it is short, when he cut off Savage's arm is one of my favorite Obi-Wan moments from The Clone Wars to date. The animation was fluid, and Opress' knee collapse after Obi-Wan strike was set-up brilliantly.

At Number 12: Obi-Wan Vs. General Grievous (Revenge of the Sith)

Obi-Wan showing that even with four Lightsabers, General Grievous is no match for a Jedi Master. However, Obi-Wan had to used a very "Uncivilized" form of weaponry to defeat him in the end. Although the fight turns into more of a chase than a Lightsaber duel, it is one of the many highlights from Revenge of the Sith.
At Number 11: Yoda Vs. Emperor (Revenge of the Sith)

Two masters of the Force dueling is pure fan service and as the Emperor said "I have been wait for this a long time my green friend.", which is exactly what the fans were thinking. The Lightsaber choreography is impressive considering that Yoda is completely computer generated, however the battle using the Force was done very great as well.

Please check back here tomorrow for the final part of the list.

Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles Part 2: 20-16

Here is part 2 of the Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles. Click here to read part 1 of my list.

At Number 20: Obi-Wan Vs. Durge
While this is the first Lightsaber fight from Genndy Tartakovsky's vastly underrated Clone Wars series, it is certainly not the last. Again, this is not the traditional Lightsaber duel Obi-Wan epic battle with the bounty hunter Durge from the original Clone Wars series more than deserving to make this list. The real fight does not really begin until 3:57 in the video but it masterfully drawn battle for the ages.

At Number 19: Obi-Wan and Adi Galla Vs. Maul and Opress

From the recent episode Clone Wars episode "Revival", Obi-Wan yet again faces his nemesis Darth Maul as he tries to exact his vengeance. Although it is contrary to continuity, Savage Opress' brutal kill of Adi Galla using his horns is a very different way to dispatch an opponent.

At Number 18: Obi-Wan and Anakin Vs. Count Dooku (Revenge of the Sith)
"Chancellor Palpatine, Sith Lords are our speciality." Anakin has his revenge on Count Dooku for cutting off his arm. This is one of the first time were Anakin shows turn towards the Dark Side as he rutherlessly decapitates Dooku. I just love the express on Dooku's face when Palpatine says "Kill him now.", Dooku must be thinking "Oh crap." he is serious.

At Number 17: Anakin Vs. Ventress (Original Clone Wars)

Another fight from the masterfully animated original Clone Wars series. The series' action scenes have always impressed me in its uses of the environment to create unique battles. Near the end were it begins to rain and water evaporating and it hits the Lightsaber is done so artfully.

At Number 16: Dark Ahsoka Vs. Anakin and Obi-Wan

The Alter of Mortis story arc is one of my favorites from The Clone Wars, and Anakin's fight with Ahsoka is was of the many highlights. Ahsoka finally gets the chance to let loose against Jedi since she starting using he duel Lightsaber style. While I am not sure why, I just really like how Ahsoka talks to Anakin in the beginning of the video, it is kind of cute and creepy at the time.

Top 25 Star Wars Lightsaber Battles Part 1: 25-21.

The Lightsaber and Lightsaber duel, one of the many iconic aspects of the Star Wars universe. There have been Lightsaber battles throughout the Star Wars franchise from the films to the Clone Wars TV series, many of which are among the best action scenes in cinema history. I am counting any action scene that uses a Lightsaber for this list and it can be from any film, TV series or video game. The scenes are being ranked by choreography, use of the environment, and importance to the franchise.

At Number 25: Obi-Wan and Vos Vs. Cad Bane

Note: I could only find the clip in German but this does not effect the action.
Although this is not a traditional "Lightsaber" fight, there is no way that I could leave off The Clone Wars coolest bounty hunter off the list. The choreography was great, the terrain was effectively to produce a very unique fight. Cad Bane even used a Lightsaber for a short time before Obi-Wan knocked it out of his hand.

At Number 24: Obi-Wan Vs. Pre-Vizsla

Note: Again I could only find the clip in German but this does not effect the action.
While the battle is short, Pre-Vizsla's black Lightsaber is just too awesome not to include on the list. The use of Pre-Vizsla's jetpack is inventive and the hand-to-hand combat was very impressive at point of The Clone Wars series.

At Number 23: Starkiller Vs. Darth Vader
While it might be a video game and lacks the impressive choreography present in more a cinematic type filmed Lightsaber duel. The stakes and the what happens later is what makes this battle truly amazing. Because not everyone has played the Force Unleashed video game or the books I shall not spoil the ending but if you have, you know why it is on this list.

At Number 22: Satele Shan Vs. Darth Malgus (The Old Republic Trailer)

The cinematic announcement trailer for The Old Republic video game. When I first watched it, I was in complete awe at the quality of animation. It nearly looks real, there should be an entire movie made from this style. The battle portrays a battle between a Sith and Jedi from the Old Republic when the Jedi were arguably at their most powerful. Plus Satele Shan is a decent of the great Jedi Revan and Bastila.

At Number 21: Revan Vs. Darth Malak
Again another fight from a video game, which lacks stunning choreography but makes up for it in pure power of story. Easily one of the best moments from the best Star Wars video game of all-time and one of the best Star Wars stories outside of the original trilogy.
Note: This picture above is my desktop wallpaper.

Check back here tomorrow for part 2 of the list.
