New Divergent Trailer

Here is a new trailer to the upcoming film, Divergent. From what friends have told me about the books, Divergent kind of has a Hunger Games vibe and this trailer looks a lot like a second rate Hunger Games with absolutely nothing new, original, or interesting. Yeah, this is probably the most dull trailer and generic trailer I have seen in a while. Sure, it is not the worst trailer ever, but nothing grabs me or makes me want to see the film. Shailene Woodley is a decent actress, but the trailer looks so derivative and boring. Even though I have no plans of seeing Divergent in theaters, a rental is more likely. What did you think of the trailer?

  1. I agree the trailer doesn't look seem to have much new, but it still looks like it could be cool if they do it right.

What did you think of the new Maleficent trailer?

  2. Yeah, I've read the book and it's definitely not a good one(and yes, it's definitely a strange, rip-off of the Hunger Games, except the HG actually had good characters and writing); the writing really reminded me of a child's(my sister and I wrote better when we were younger kids) and the characters didn't even develop very well(like, Tris, towards the end, had several bad things happen to her in succession and her emotion never seemed real, which I found very frustrating). Also, the plot and setting was kind of weird(the world didn't really seem plausible) and there were some things that seemed unrealistic, like Tris somehow getting too much muscle that her pants don't fit anymore after only a week or two(which isn't possible since, typically, it takes a bit more time than that). and it's really sad, since I very badly want to see more films starring female leads, but they just keep choosing the bad books(except for the HG trilogy, since I loved those books) instead of the ones that would be just plain awesome- I'd love to see the Abhorsen trilogy be made into movies, since they are very original and exciting.

  3. I have a completely different opinion of Divergent than Shena.
I agree, the trailer really doesn't look that great. But I absolutely loved the books. I'm a huge Hungergames fan, and I enjoyed Divergent even more. I found the idea unique and fresh. The only real similarities between HG and Divergent, are that it's alternate histories, and the main character is a female. I am no expert on writing, but I found the books very well written. I loved this trilogy. That's why my desire to see the movie comes from.

  4. I'm not exactly sure what to think from this; I agree, the trailer isn't that great and I've not read the books. So... don't know. I'll probably see it after it comes out on DVD, though.

  5. This. Looks. So. Dumb.

Okay, okay, maybe it's not THAT bad, but it just looks like a bunch of pitiful futuristic fighting, kissing and angst. Veronica Ross definitely copied The Hunger Games, and that drives me crazy. I'm not hugely into HG, but I did read the books and I'm looking forward to the next movie...anyway, this movie looks a bit boring. But maybe it'll surprise me. Ya never know :)

  6. I'm not trying to hate here, just expressing an opinion. This kind of stories just don't appeal to me. I don't know, maybe because I prematurely assume that they're pretending to be social commentaries when in fact they're just about teen angst and whatnot. Or maybe I'm just missing something. Anyway, I'll pass on this one.

  7. After The Spectacular Now, I forgive Shailene Woodley any missteps. I cannot say the same for Theo James (the male lead), who bombed as CBS' "Golden Boy". Still, I think Divergent, like a lot of YA fiction rushed to theaters, is one I'll wait on either DVD or second-run theaters to watch.

  8. I completely disagree. I understand your opinion, but I do not find Divergent a Hunger Games rip-off. I loved the book and I'm excited for the movie.
