Indiana Jones 5 is Officially Announced! Ford and Spielberg Return!

Indiana Jones 5 is Officially Announced! Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg will return and the film opens on July 19th, 2019. Wow, this is exciting news! Of course, Walt Disney Studios now own the rights to Indiana Jones in the deal for Lucasfilm, and honestly, the fact that the new film is neither a reboot is surprising. Even more surprising is that Spielberg is returning to direct. In the past, he indicated that he was finished with action adventure flicks after Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, but hey, Disney probably waved a wad of cash in his face and a lot of creative freedom, so he is back! 

If you are somehow unaware, the Indiana Jones franchise is one of my all-time favorites, right behind Star Wars and The Lord of the Rings. However, due to Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being the most disappointing film in cinematic history, or at least from my perspective, I used to think that leaving the Indiana Jones franchise finished was the best idea. Now, with The Force Awakens bringing back Star Wars to its former glory, my faith and confidence in Disney to do the same for Indiana Jones is rather high. Spielberg is one of the greatest film directors of all-time, and some of his best work lies within the Indiana Jones trilogy, particularly Raiders of the Lost Ark. Considering The Force Awakens’ return to practical effects, it should be no question that Indiana Jones does the same with practical stun work. My only concern is that Ford is 73, and who knows how long he can keep being an action hero. Hopefully, he can give Indiana Jones a strong sendoff and pass the torch to the next generation, much like he did in The Force Awakens. 

Other information released is that Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall will produce the film, and David Koepp, who has worked on Jurassic Park, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, Mission: Impossible, and Spider-Man, will write the script.

Doctor Who News: Moffat Leaving and Series 10 Delayed?

Steven Moffat is leaving Doctor Who after 2017! And there will be almost no new Doctor Who until 2017?

A few days ago, big news about Doctor Who was dropped; some good, some bad, but all interesting. First, Doctor Who will not return with a new season (series) until Spring 2017, with only a Christmas special at the end of 2016. The following is a quote by BBC1 controller Charlotte Moore about the reasoning behind the delay of Doctor Who: “I have decided to schedule Steven’s big finale series in Spring 2017 to bring the nation together for what will be a huge event on the channel. 2016 is spoilt with national moments including the Euros and Olympics and I want to hold something big back for 2017 - I promise it will be worth the wait!”

Honestly, this reason sounds like BS. This barely answers why we have to wait, but who knows. Regardless, that's what is happening, so no new Doctor Who until Christmas of this year.

On the good news side, Steven Moffat is leaving as showrunner after the 2017 season! Moffat might have written some of the best episodes of Doctor Who, such as "Blink" and "The Girl in the Fireplace." However, his convoluted style of storytelling may have worked for a few seasons, but it is getting old. He seems unable to come up with enough new ideas, especially in the season finales, so I, for one, am glad to get new blood into the mix! Maybe he can devote his effort to the always exceptional Sherlock!

In Moffat's place, Chris Chibnall will take over as the showrunner. Chibnall is known for being the creator of the popular Broadchurch series starring David Tennant. If you are interested, definitely watch the first season and forget that there is a second season, because it is barely worth watching. Chibnall's other credits include episodes for Life on Mars, Torchwood, Law & Order: UK, and even Doctor Who. The following are the Doctor Who episodes and web-shorts he has written:

• "42" (2007)
• "The Hungry Earth" / "Cold Blood" (2010)
• Pond Life (2012)
• "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship" (2012)
• "The Power of Three" (2012)
• "P.S." (2012)

Honestly, I do not remember "42" at all. "The Hungry Earth" / "Cold Blood," "Dinosaurs on a Spaceship," and "The Power of Three" were all rather mediocre episodes, and far from the quality Doctor Who should be. Pond Life is the short webseries about Amy and Rory, and "P.S." is basically a deleted scene from "The Angels Take Manhattan" released online. Overall, his work on Doctor Who is rather unimpressive. However, Broadchurch's first season is brilliant, so I have high hopes that Chris Chibnall will finally bring something new to the Doctor Who franchise.

Lastly, Peter Capaldi is rumored to be leaving the series after season 9 to give the series a fresh start with Chibnall at the helm. While it might seem a little too soon for Capaldi to be leaving the series, the previous actors only stayed onboard for 3 seasons, plus specials, and considering that 2016 is basically an off-year, Capaldi's tenure would be about as long as the others. With that said, Capaldi showed his true potential last season, and if he were given stronger scripts that fit his style, instead of Moffat's often clashing tone, Capaldi could truly shine in the role. With that said, Moffat started with a new Doctor and the same will likely be true for Chibnall (wow, I am going to have to get used to spelling that name, haha). Fingers crossed for the extremely unlikely choice of Idris Elba as the Thirteenth Doctor!

Overall, while Doctor Who being delayed is disappointing, Moffat leaving is a more than welcome change, because we desperately need something new and fresh!

Ukrainian Statue of Lenin Transformed Into Darth Vader

When a law passed in Ukraine that ordered all symbols and insignia of communist party rule in the country be removed, Ukrainians remodeled the statue of communist leader, Lenin, into Darth Vader. A government sanctioned remodeling of a statue into Darth Vader is actually kind of awesome. Why completely destroy a statue if you can change it into Darth Vader? Above is the video of its unveiling and below are pictures of Before and After. I apologize for the series of short posts lately. Until I see The Force Awakens, which is proving to be a nearly impossible task due to life and bad weather, trying to avoid spoilers means not going on my usual websites. However, as soon as I see it, expect plenty of exciting new posts!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens in Theaters Today!

At long last, Star Wars: The Force Awakens is in theaters! Honestly, the feeling of it being theaters is kind of surreal. After growing up with the Star Wars films, video games, novels, and basically everything, Star Wars is back in theaters again. Ever since Revenge of the Sith, I have been waiting for another Star Wars film, and until Disney bought Star Wars, I never expected to see another one. As I said last week, I will hopefully see the film Monday or Tuesday. Until then, I'm avoiding anything and everything could be a spoiler or review. However, I will continue posting as usual, since there are a ton of great new movie trailers! And if you have written a review, please let me know, just don't say what you think of the film, but I will check out the review after seeing the film for myself. Also, be aware that silmos (Dug for "slimeball" in Star Wars) are in the comments and might spoil the film. They have already tried earlier this week!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens One Week Countdown

A week from today, Star Wars: The Force Awakens will be out in theaters! The long wait for the most anticipated film this century will be over. And to countdown to its release, I will be having an entire week of Star Wars posts! As you may recall, I intended to post more Star Wars content earlier in the month, but as any blogger knows, things don't always work out as you plan. Well, hopefully I will be able to write up some Star Wars posts for this week, as well as finish the lists I have already started. 

Also, to answer anyone who asks, I will not be able to see The Force Awakens on opening night, even though I desperately want to. It's Christmas time, and there are family gatherings and such. Anyway, I do plan to see it that first Monday and have the review out as soon as possible. Until then, expect Star Wars posts and maybe a review of Creed. Otherwise, it's time to get all aboard the hype-train! Who's with me!?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens - IMAX 3D Poster

A new IMAX 3D Poster for Star Wars: The Force Awakens shows Daisy Ridley's character walking towards a barren Jakku (or Tatooine) sunset. The poster is simple, although that is not unexpected from an IMAX. Personally, the simplistic design is refreshing, and, in a way, it highlights the type of wide shots IMAX does best. Hopefully, if everything goes as planned, I will see the film in IMAX 3D by the first Monday, if not the first day, of its release (the theater is out of town). Marvel's Jessica Jones - Official Trailer

After countless teasers, a real trailer for Jessica Jones is finally here, and David Tennant, the 10th Doctor in Doctor Who, will play the villain, Dr. Zebediah Killgrave, aka Purple Man. Somehow, I completely overlooked the fact that David Tennant will star in the new Jessica Jones series! Considering that Fisk in Daredevil turned out to be one of Marvel's best villains, I have high hopes for Tennant's take on Killgrave. As for the rest of the trailer, it gives me much higher hopes that the series will succeed. Everything about the trailer sets up an interesting plot full of intrigue and thrills. Luke Cage's role appears to be larger, and Krysten Ritter looks excellent in the role. If Tennant is as excellent a villain as I hope, we are in for a real treat! What do you think? Marvel and Fox Developing “Hellfire” and “Legion” TV Series

You may remember last week that rumors suggested that Fox, who owns the X-Men and Fantastic Four film rights, would make a deal with Marvel / Disney to create a new TV series for Fox's television channels. While the details of the deal are incredibly vague, Marvel and Fox are developing a TV series about the Hellfire Club from X-Men: First Class film titled, "Hellfire." Variety's report states, "Fox’s 'Hellfire' is set in the late 1960s and follows a young special agent who learns that a power-hungry woman with extraordinary abilities is working with a clandestine society of millionaires, known as 'The Hellfire Club,' to take over the world."

The following are set to star and produce Hellfire: "Singer, Lauren Shuler Donner, Simon Kinberg, Evan Katz, Manny Coto, Jim Chory and Marvel’s Head of TV Marvel’s Jeph Loeb will serve as exec producers with Patrick McKay and JD Payne co-writing the script. '24' alums Katz and Coto will serve as showrunners. 'Hellfire' hails from Marvel TV and 20th Century Fox with 20th handling the physical production of the series in development."

The second TV series will be "Legion" on the FX channel. "FX’s 'Legion,' which is also based on an X-Men character, will tell the story of a troubled young man, David Haller, who may be more than human. Since he was a teenager, David has struggled with mental illness, and diagnosed as schizophrenic — he has been in and out of psychiatric hospitals for years. But after a strange encounter with a fellow patient, he’s confronted with the possibility that the voices he hears and the visions he sees might be real. In Marvel Comics canon, the character is Professor Charles Xavier’s mutant son."

Well, this is certainly interesting news. Hopefully, more details on how, if at all, these TV shows will affect the MCU and which companies own the rights to which properties will be revealed in the near future. What do you think? Please comment below and let me know!

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Trailer 3

The new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens is here! And you can watch it above. After much deliberation, I have decided to not watch the trailer for the same reasons why I avoided the trailers for Age of Ultron. Without any preconceived notions and expectations, my experience of the film will be free of any influences. Few things are more enjoyable than being truly surprised, and that is what I am hoping for with this new Star Wars film. With that said, if you want to watch it, do so! In the meantime, to countdown to the film's release, I will be writing several lists of Star Wars' best characters, stories, video games, and more! Expect to see those in the coming months, as well as a post outlining what to expect in those posts.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2 Official Trailer

The fourth and final film in the Hunger Games quadrilogy is almost there, and now we have the film's first full trailer. Since I did not watch Harry Potter until after it concluded, The Hunger Games is first the YA novel series adaptation that I watched as it was released. For the past four years, I experienced the film series with everyone else, and it has been a fun ride. With that said, Harry Potter is far superior, and while I do like the Hunger Games, I am not necessarily a fan. Sure, they are good movies, but they are definitely not among the best of the best. Regardless, I am excited to see the final installment, and I will be in theater to see it come to an end. Ant-Man and the Wasp, aka Ant-Man 2

Ant-Man is getting a sequel, and the title will be "Ant-Man and the Wasp." Ant-Man and the Wasp is set to release on July 6 2018. While Ant-Man's box office is lower than the recent Marvel flicks, I am glad that Marvel decided to greenlight the sequel, and featuring Evangeline Lilly's Wasp in the title is also great news because the character definitely deserves to be a main part of the film. To make room for the new Ant-Man sequel, “Black Panther” moving up to February 16, 2018 and “Captain Marvel” is landing on March 8, 2019. It seems that Marvel is having a little trouble with those two films, but considering how much fun Ant-Man was, I do not mind those two films getting pushed back. Additionally, Marvel has announced three unnamed projects that will premiere on May 1, 2020, July 10, 2020, and November 6, 2020. Are you excited for a new Ant-Man film? The X-Files 2016 Trailer

The X-Files returns in January 2016, and this new trailer gives us our first look at the upcoming six-episode event series! For those not aware, The X-Files is a classic 90s to early 00s TV series that follows two FBI agents that investigate mysterious cases that involve various sci-fi and supernatural phenomena. The X-Files set the foundation of the sci-fi and supernatural crime drama genre that many series would later copy, like Fringe, Supernatural, and various others. It is also one of my personal favorites, although I have yet to complete the series. But, of course, I am excited for the new miniseries event coming this January. Death Note Movie Casts Nat Wolff as Light Yagami

Nat Wolff is officially cast as the lead in Death Note, the upcoming supernatural thriller. Death Note follows a young man that finds a "Death Note," a notebook that can kill anyone whose name is written within it, providing the user knows his or her name and face. The protagonist soon discovers its power and uses it to cleanse the country of criminals. A detective named "L" attempts to track the protagonist down and beginning one of the most thrilling games of cat-and-mouse since Sherlock vs. Moriarty. Director of "The Guest" and various horror films, Adam Wingard, will helm the project.

Death Note is one of my personal favorite stories in all of fiction, and I am extremely excited that it is finally receiving a feature film adaptation. Certain elements of the story will be difficult to pull off, and creating the correct amount of tension and drama will require a skillful director. However, from what is said of Wingard's work, he has done some great things, although I have yet to see any of them. If you want to see Death Note in its best form right now, go watch the series on Netflix; it is one of the best crime thrillers of the century. Are you interest in this new film? Doctor Who Spinoff: "Class" - Coming Next Year

Breaking news, a new spinoff of Doctor Who titled "Class" is coming next year! Steven Moffatt and Brian Minchin will be the executive producers, and young adult author, Patrick Ness, will be the showrunner. Class will be set in contemporary London at Coal Hill School, the school where Clara teaches, as well as being the school where the Doctor's granddaughter, Susan Foreman, attended during the first episode of Doctor Who back in 1963. Ness is known for the YA novels "Chaos Walking" trilogy and "A Monster Calls," so it is obvious that the show is trying to capture a younger demographic. 

Coal Hill certainly has a long running history in the Doctor Who franchise. However, considering how awful the child acting was during the episodes that took place at the school, I have a bad feeling. Last time the Doctor Who franchised tried to target a younger audience, the result was the "Sarah Jane Adventures," and while one season aired in the US (I thought it was cancelled until years later), it was bad, very bad. While nothing is confirmed, assumably Jenna Coleman will star in the series after she leaves Doctor Who. Otherwise, who else would else star in the series? My guess is that her role will be setup during this season of Doctor Who, so that might tie into the crew at UNIT. As always, I try to be cautiously optimistic, so we will just have to wait and see. The Angry Birds Movie - Official Teaser Trailer

Angry Birds, the insanely popular mobile game, is now getting a feature film, and the trailer is here! And.... "I have a bad feeling about this." Seriously, this does not look that great. It does not scream a kid's film, and yet the humor is almost nonexistent, at least for me. Like just anyone, I have played Angry Birds, and while it is not a favorite of mine, it is a fun game to play when you are waiting around, or at least before I downloaded some comics and manga to read. Anyway, the trailer is giving me a bad vibe. It looks like a flop. However, the brand name of Angry Birds is likely to get butts in the seats so to speak, and Angry Birds is insanely popular with kids, as well as adults. The cast looks solid with the notable ones being Jason Sudeikis, Josh Gad, Bill Hader, and Peter Dinklage. Also, the use of Michael Jackson's "Bad" is quite good. Otherwise, nothing about this trailer makes me think that the movie will be anything more than an average or below average animated flick. What think? Netflix Knows Which Episode Gets You Hooked

Netflix recently released data on the watching habits of their viewers, which reveals that the pilot episode is not the one that gets people hooked! Below the graph is a full list including which episodes hooked viewers. 

Netflix is known for withholding their statistics from the public, so even the fact that they are releasing this is not a common occurrence. However, the results fascinate me. Arrow is a perfect example of a series that does not get going until after episode 8, and even my friend dropped the series around episode 6. On the other hand, fan-favorite Breaking Bad only required two episodes before the typical viewer is hooked. Considering both the series' quality and unanimously positive response from anyone and everyone, chances are, if you plan to watch Breaking Bad, you are going to watch it until the end. The larger number of episodes that Daredevil required did, however, surprise me due to how fast Netflix renewed it, and the series overall popularity. Other than that, these stats are intriguing for sure. Lastly, thanks everyone for the positive response to my new "Netflix Picks" series. Doctor Who Season 9 Premieres Tonight!

Doctor Who returns tonight with Season 9! Obviously, I am excited to see what the series will deliver in this new season. Granted, I am not too excited about the return of River Song, who has outlived her usefulness several seasons ago. Otherwise, my favorite show is back, and while there are certain things that need to change, I am excited nonetheless. Hopefully, Moffat, whose work I generally like, will step-down as showrunner next year and hand it off to someone else to give us a fresh take on the character. Of course, I will do my best to review each episode this season, so look for that soon, and I plan mix things up with other Doctor Who posts. Are you going to watch this new season?
