Green Lantern (Extended Cut) Review.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

I watched Green Lantern on Blu-Ray the other day.

This is the review for the Extended Cut version of the movie but from what I read the scenes that were added weren't that important.
Directed by: Martin Campbell
Genre: Action Adventure, Comic Book, Sci-Fi,
Release Date: June 17, 2011 (2011-06-17)
Running Time: 114 minutes
MMPA rating: PG-13

The Good: The way Green Lantern uses his power ring was cool, A good many comical moments,

The Bad: Mediocre special effects compared to most movies now, Generic plot, Poor editing,

Plot: Millions of years before the Earth was formed, a group of beings called the Guardians of the Universe used the green essence of willpower to create an intergalactic police force called the Green Lantern Corps. They split the universe into 3,600 sectors, with one Green Lantern per sector. One such Green Lantern, Abin Sur (Temuera Morrison) of Sector 2814, defeated the fear-essence being Parallax (voiced by Clancy Brown) and imprisoned him in the Lost Sector on the ruined planet Ryut. However, in the present day, Parallax escapes from his prison. Six months later, after killing four Green Lanterns and destroying two planets, Parallax attacks Sector 2814 and mortally wounds Abin Sur, who escapes and crash-lands on Earth. The dying Abin Sur commands his ring to find a worthy successor on the planet.
Ferris Aircraft test pilot Hal Jordan (Ryan Reynolds) is chosen by the ring and transported to the crash site, where Abin Sur appoints him a Green Lantern, by telling him to take the lantern and speak the oath. At home he says the oath of the Green Lanterns while under trance from the glow of the lantern. After he gets attacked while leaving a bar Jordan swings to punch one of his attackers, letting out a huge fist of green energy. Jordan is whisked away to the Green Lantern Corps home planet of Oa, where he meets and trains with Tomar-Re (voiced by Geoffrey Rush) and Kilowog (voiced by Michael Clarke Duncan). He encounters Corps leader Sinestro (Mark Strong), who is displeased that a human—primitive compared to other Corps species—has become a Green Lantern. With Sinestro believing him to be unfit and fearful, Jordan quits and returns to Earth, keeping the power ring and lantern. Watch the movie to see what happnes next.

Plot: 6.3/10- The plot was generic and the editing felt jumpy.

Action: 7.0/10- The action good and the ways Green Lantern used his ring was unique but there were not any WOW! moments in the action scenes.

Acting: 6.7/10- Ryan Reynolds was good and funny but the rest of the cast was OK.

Special effects: 5.1/10- I was very disappointed by the effects not one of the best looking films out there.

Soundtrack: 6.8/10- The soundtrack worked but wasn't great.

Comedy: 8.6/10- Green Lantern is not a comedy but there was some good humor in the movie.

Overall: 6.0/10- Green Lantern is not the train wreck that some critics claim but it is not one of the better comic book movies.

Closing comments: Green Lantern is a fun summer blockbuster but there is not a lot there other than some humor and adventure.

  1. i really disliked this film. the movie just felt so fake. i mean the costuming was horrible. it looked like ryan was wearing a plastic bodysuit. it just doesn't look right. :(

  2. We have a good and convincing superhero movies these days, which is a wonderful thing that has happened to the genre. Now, the "Green Lantern" is one of these films, which also has a strong, but in the end is a common movie cheese.

  4. I like the "You also might like" feature which I see on a lot of blogs lately. I agree whole heartedly with your review, the plot was generic (not enough sub-plot) and the special effects did look a little hokey. Perhaps the sequel will get a bigger budget.

  6. I thought that the Green Lantern was rather dull, stupid and hard to get into. I prefer the sorts of movies which aren't too weird to work out whats going on.
Plus, I feel asleep during it :) So I suppose I can't give an exact oppinon.
But from what I saw it was pretty junky.
