Top 50 Fictional Couples: Part 3

Today is Valentine's Day and that signals the conclusion of my Top 50 Favorite Fictional Couples. Please enjoy and let me know what you think of my extremely geeky list.

At Number 14: The Doctor and Rose Tyler
Sorry River, Rose is the Doctor's best pairing. While I prefer the Doctor having a platonic relationship with his companions, the romance developed between The Doctor and Rose was very well done. David Tennant's Doctor probably had the best chemistry with Billie Piper's Rose than any other companion and she was The Doctor's first romantic interest.

At Number 13: Master Chief and Cortana
OK, this is far from the traditional "romance" because Cortana is a sentient artificial intelligence and Master Chief is basically the future version of Captain America. If you have played the Halo series, particularly Halo 4, it should be obvious as to why they are on the list.

At Number 12: Revan and Bastlia
Another couple from the Star Wars universe, Revan and Bastlia first appeared in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game, but unfortunately, I cannot say more without spoiling the plot for the game.

At Number 11: Luke and Mara
Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade had instant chemistry on the pages of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn book trilogy. Although non-Star Wars have never heard of the couple since Mara has yet to make an appearance in any form of media except for a few video games, maybe there is a slight chance that Mara and Luke will be featured in the upcoming Star Wars trilogy!

At Number 10: Steve and Peggy
Captain America: The First Avenger did an excellent job of taking a little used character, Peggy Carter, and expanding her role into one of Marvel's best romantic interests. I am curious to see what will happen with Cap and Peggy in the upcoming Winter Soldier!

At Number 9: Cobb and Mal (Inception)
Cobb and Mal are the definition of a troubled relationship. Not only did Mal *Inception Spoilers* kill herself because Cobb made her believe she was still dreaming, she haunts his subconscious and nearly ruins the mission or did she succeed? It is far from a happy ending. * Inception Horn Music*  *End of Spoilers*

At Number 8: Lelouch and C2 (C.C.) or Shirley (Code Geass)
The debate between C2 (green hair on the left) and Shirley on who Lelouch's true pairing should be in Code Geass is similar to that of Gwen vs. MJ with the Spider-Man franchise. Both have great chemistry with Lelouch, however C2 is my pick all the way. Shirley is great but I liked C2 from the start. By the way, Shirley is not dead in that picture, so no spoilers.

At Number 7: Joker and Harley
Not exactly a nice relationship, considering that they are both deranged psychopaths. Harley is one of my favorite characters in the Batman universe and I wish Nolan had given us an adaptation of the character in his trilogy. Watch the episode "Mad Love" of Batman: The Animated Series to see more of this crazy couple.

At Number 6: Indiana and Marion
While it's the first appearance of Harrison Ford on this list, it will certainly not be the last. During their first scene together, the audience can instantly see the history behind their relationship. On screen they are so much fun to watch, but let us please forgot about the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull because that never happened.

At Number 5: Shepard and Tali (or Liara)
This choice from the Mass Effect series needs some explaining for those who have not played the video game. In Mass Effect the player creates a character named Shepard and goes through the story making dialogue choices that affect the outcome of the game. If the play so chooses, he can exchange dialogue with the certain members of the squad and build a romantic relationship then. For me, Tali my choice from the start. She can not even remove her enviro-suit without risk of contracting a deadly disease, and she is so funny and awkward, and that is one of the many reasons why Tali is such a compelling character. After re-playing the game and romancing Liara from start to finish, Liara is an almost as compelling character with her own great character traits.

At Number 4: Tomoya and Nagisa (Clannad/Clannad: After Story)
Clannad's portrayal of romance is the best and most realistic I have seen in any work of fiction, not just anime. Aside from Clannad and Clannad: After Story being the saddest work of fiction ever made, their romance was so well done that even I have to admit that I enjoyed watching it. If you want to see a funny, saddening, and satisfying comedy drama, watch Clannad and Clannad: After Story, they are classics of the medium! It is refreshing to see an entirely ethical relationship develop between Tomoya and Nagisa opposed to the usual norm that Hollywood shows in basically everything.

At Number 3: Peter and Gwen or Mary Jane
Since both film versions of Spider-Man had fantastic couples with Toby McGuire and Kirsten Dunst and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, they are both included on this list. If I had to choose, I would pick Garfield and Emma Stone, although McGuire and Dunst were so great together as well! Also, the comic book versions are obviously classic.

At Number 2: Tony and Pepper
Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark and Gwyneth Paltrow as Pepper Potts are one of the best cast couples of all-time. Believe it or not, in the comics Pepper was not Tony's romantic interest, she ended up marring Iron Man's head of security "Happy" Hogan. Despite this, it is possibly the best change ever made from comic to film because it works so well. They play off each other as if they have known each other for years and their on screen chemistry is virtually unmatched. Not only are they one of the best fictional couples, they are one of the funniest as well.

At Number 1: Han and Leia
How could I choose anyone else but Han and Leia for the top spot? My favorite hero and heroine from all of fiction together, could it get any better? Their banter is hilarious as demonstrated by the Gifs below and their chemistry is fantastic. Hopefully Ford and Fisher can recapture that classic chemistry in the new Star Wars trilogy. They even had the best exchange of romantic dialogue in cinema history with.
Leia: "I love you."
Han: "I know."
Ford even came up with that line on the spot. Also do not forget about the "Scruffy looking nurf herder." scene, both are clever and hilarious.

Top 50 Fictional Couples: Part 2

I know there were a few that could have made the list but just fell short like Robin Hood and Maid Marion. Who are your favorite Fictional Couples? Please comment below.

If you are looking for something to watch on Valentine's Day, I highly recommend Clannad and Clannad: After Story since the series is amazing. It starts out slow, but it ends up being hilarious with a lot of great characters. Both series are in the playlist below in order, or at least I think the playlist is in order.

Top 50 Fictional Couples: Part 2

Here is the continuation of my Top 50 Fictional Couples. The list can include any couple from a fictional work whether it be a novel, film, comic book, or TV series. On a side note, if you do not hear from me in a while, assume that I have lost electricity because I will be getting a lot of ice that could potentially knock out the power.

At Number 34: Batman and Catwoman or Talia Al Ghul
I could not decide between Batman and Catwoman or Batman and Talia Al Ghul, so I decided to include them both on the list. Although Bruce Wayne even married Talia in the comics, Catwoman is a better more likable match for the Caped Crusader.

At Number 33: Superman and Lois
Superman and Lois Lane are the original super-couple. How could one make a couples list and not include Superman and Lois? The classic Richard Donner film certainly executed the romance aspect better than any other adaption to date, but thanks to the mediocrity of Man of Steel's portrayal of the iconic couple, their on ranking on the list has fell a few places since last time.
Was there any chemistry between these two?

At Number 32: Aragorn and Awren
Although Aragorn and Awren's relationship was given an unnecessary focus in the movies compared to the the books, it nevertheless worked well in the film.

At Number 31: Scott Summers (Cyclops) and Jean Grey
While the movie version of Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) and Jean Grey were given the shaft, they are a core part of the X-Men in the comics. Their relationship is a driving force behind many classic X-Men comic runs like the Phoenix Sage.

At Number 30: Bruce (The Hulk) and Betty
While the Incredible Hulk could have been better, the Bruce and Betty romance was done rather well, and of course the comics did it best.

At Number 29: Bruce Wayne and Andrea Beaumont
Out of all Bruce Wayne's romantic interests, Andrea Beaumont from the Batman: Mask of the Phantasm movie is easily my favorite. She was original to the film and was never in the comics but despite her short part, she made a big impression.

At Number 28: Shiki and Mikiya (Kara no Kyōkai)
Among the complex plot, gore, and heavy philosophy of the Kara no Kyōkai film series, there was a surprising strong romantic subplot that never gets in the way of the main plot. Nice guy Mikiya, always believes in split-personality psychopathic killer, Shiki, and the fact that the voice actors for the characters later married, doesn't hurt their chemistry either.

At Number 27: Okabe and Kurisu (Steins;Gate)
A mist the time-traveling twists and turns of the masterfully executed Steins;Gate series, Okabe's relationship with Kurisu was always a highlight that presented an equal amount of great humor and drama.

At Number 26: Joker and EDI (Mass Effect)
Quite possibly the strangest couple on the list considering that EDI is a highly advanced AI that inhabits both the Normandy spaceship and EDI's field mission body, and Joker that is the pilot of said spaceship, Joker and EDI are so hilarious together in Mass Effect 3, particularly when EDI is trying to understand human emotions.

At Number 25: Asuka and Shinji (Neon Genesis Evangelion)
Despite the insanity that happened in End of Evangelion, Asuka and Shinji are my choice pairing from the Evangelion franchise. You could go with Shinji and Rei, but Asuka will always be my favorite.

At Number 24: Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger
Despite the heavy and obvious foreshadowing of their relationship throughout the Harry Potter franchise, they are an unforgettable pair with magical chemistry.

At Number 23: Edward Elric and Winry Rockbell (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Edward and Winry are such unique characters that bring something truly original to Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, a series that is already very original.

At Number 22: Glenn and Maggie
While their relationship started out a little strange, Maggie and Glenn from The Walking Dead have really turned into one of my favorite couples in television.

At Number 21: Kirito and Asuna (Sword Art Online)
Despite the hate that Sword Art Online receives, Kirito and Asuna remain one of my favorite couples from anime.

At Number 20: Logan and Mariko
The recent Wolverine film adapted Wolverine's classic Japanese storyline and along with it his romance with Mariko. Both the comic and film versions of the romance do an excellent job of giving Logan a convincing romance storyline.

At Number 19: John and Mary Watson
While I am including all adaptations of this couple, the recent portrayal of the John and Mary in BBC's Sherlock is my current favorite on screen portrayal.

At Number 18: Isaac and Miria (Baccano!)
Isaac and Miria's "romance" aspect of their relationship is not exactly shown much but they are the absolute best part of Baccano's complete insanity. There are one of the few characters that are so hilarious and over-the-top, yet actually have unique personalities. They are the most lovable pair of morons ever and that is why I like them, plus this scene below is positively hysterical!

At Number 17: Wash and Zoe
Unlike many fictional couples, Wash and Zoe started out as married in Firefly, which was a refreshing twist to the usually annoying "will they, won't they" romantic stories.

At Number 16: Thor and Jane
While some may dislike Thor and Jane as a couple, I thought they were great together in the recent Thor film, and they were even better in The Dark World last year.

At Number 15: Amy and Rory

Not only are Amy and Rory my favorite companions from the Doctor Who series, they are one of the best, and most fun couples of any franchise.

Top 50 Fictional Couples: Part 1

With Valentine's Day right around the corner, I have decided to bring back the list of my favorite Fictional Couples, which had a surprising amount of popularity last Valentine's Day. However, my list new is expanded to a total of 50 Couples with many new ones and a lot of shifting around of the order. Being a guy, I do not watch many of the corny romance movies, therefore most of my picks are from action movies, comic books, anime, sci-fi, and fantasy works of fiction. To qualify for the list, the couple only has to be from a work of fiction, and they have to be a cannon couple only (no fanfic shipping)! My rankings are based on my personal favorites. Most of my favorite couples have great chemistry that often offers some great comedic dialogue. Usually for my lists, I write quite a bit about each pick on the list, however, since I do not have a lot to say about each one, I have decide just to write a little about each one and have more picks on each post instead of making five different posts, I have split it into three. Also note that some characters have had different romantic interests, and therefore the "OTP (One True Pair)," as fanfic writers would put it, is debatable. Also, do not expect all of these couples to have a "Happily Ever After" ending or a nice relationship.

At Number 50: Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall (Any movie)
Okay, this is cheating since they are a real life couple that married after acting in a few movies together, which is why they are at 50th. However, Bogy and Bacall have some of the best on screen chemistry regardless of what movie they are in together from The Big Sleep to Key Largo.

At Number 49: Mario and Princess Peach
Mario is one dedicated dude. Almost every time that Bowser steals his woman, he has to go save her from the castle, hundreds of times! Sure, there is basically no romance between the two, but they are classics.

At Number 48: Dr. Horrible and Penny
Anyone that has seen Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog knows exactly why they are on the list, and I will re-frame from spoiling anything about it.

At Number 47: Akira and Saki (Eden of the East)
Eden of the East takes a very Jason Bourne approach to the story (it even references the Bourne movies) and the romance that develops between the mysterious amnesiac, Akira, and a random girl that he happens to meet, Saki, is handled rather well.

At Number 46: Neo and Trinity (The Matrix)
While the actors never had much, if any, chemistry, the "Trinity Help" scene was awesome and as a Matrix fan I had to include them on the list.

At Number 45: Reed (Mr. Fantastic) and Sue (Invisible Woman) Richards
While the film adaptation of Fantastic the characters was executed terribly, they are still one of the best couples in comics, and maybe there is a slight chance that the upcoming remake will be better.

At Number 44: Rick and Lori Grimes (The Walking Dead)
Oh Lori, you can be such a major pain in the neck! Despite being kind of a terrible mother that is constantly making stupid decisions, Lori and Rick's relationship does have a satisfying payoff later in the series.

At Number 43: Link and Zelda
Another classic Nintendo couple, Link has saved Zelda dozen of times from whatever evil dude that takes her away.

At Number 42: Jeff and Lisa (Rear Window)
Despite the sizable age gap between James Stewart and Grace Kelly, they were a likable couple in Hitchcock's classic Rear Window. Grace's character, Lisa, is one of the more useful girlfriends in classic movies since she helped out Jeff solve the mystery.

At Number 41: Malcolm and Inara
Why aren't Mal and Inara not ruttin' higher on the list you ask? Because Fox cancelled the show before anything was allowed to progress!

At Number 40: Makoto and Chiaki (The Girl Who Leapt Through Time)
I hate stupid teen romance, but man did The Girl Who Leapt Through Time pull it well. Director, Mamoru Hosoda perfectly mixed time-travel, humor, and a little bit of romance into one of the most underrated and under-watched animated classics.

At Number 39: Roy Mustang and Riza Hawkeye (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)
Determining whether or not Roy and Riza are actually a couple is difficult because there is not many romantic scenes between the two but rather a lot of tension. In terms of bada**ness no other couple comes even close. They are a force to be reckoned with.

At Number 38: Simon and Kaylee
Another couple from Joss Whedon's classic Firefly, Simon and Kaylee are fun, funny, and have some really great moments in the series and the followup film Serenity.

At Number 37: Spike and Julia
For the most part, Spike and Julia's relationship is shown in flashbacks, but she is the one that basically turned Spike into the complex character that he is throughout most of the series.

At Number 36: James Bond and Vesper
Vesper is the only "Bond Girl" to have a believable relationship with Bond, although I would have to spoil Casino Royale to tell why I liked Bond and Vesper the best.

At Number 35: Light and Misa
Light and Misa's relationship reminded me a lot of the Joker and Harley in that Misa is absolutely obsessed with Light, yet Light, for the most part, is only using her for his personal gain.

What do you think of my list thus far? Who are some of your favorite fictional couples? Please comment below and check back soon for the continuation of the list.
