New Scarlett Johansson Movie Trailer: Lucy

Scarlett Johansson is staring in her first solo action film, Lucy. Lucy is an original property from director Luc Besson, and from the trailer, I am legitimately interested and possibly excited for this film. First off, Scarlett Johansson is one of my favorite actresses in the business today, so I really hope that she can pull off a successful action flick because that could mean a solo Black Window movie, and of course, that would be awesome. Other than that, the film's concept intrigues me. There do seem to be a few too many similarities with Bradley Cooper's Limitless, which I have not seen, at least in terms of the trailer and expanding the brain, Lucy could be a real surprise for us this year. At first, the trailer felt a little generic but when I realized that it was a science fiction thriller, my interest in the film went way up. The concept of expanding the brain giving her superpowers could be very cool to see, providing the movie does not end up being convoluted. Actually, this movie reminds me of the classic Japanese film, Akira, in terms of Lucy's powers. The humor is good, particularly the "Do you speak English?" part, that was hilarious! On a side note, I am hoping the movie is rated PG-13 and not R, because aside from not doing as well at the box office, there is no real reason for an R rating unless the movie wants to be majorly violent, which I would not mind. Overall, since it is Scarlett Johansson and the fact that the concept looks fun, I am intrigued, even if there is big potential for an epic fail. What do you think? 1. The trailer reminded me of Limitless too, up until it turned all sci-fy. I thought Limitless was an alright movie, so if this turns out to be the sci-fy version with a female lead (and rated PG-13, I'm with you on that) I'd be interested. From the trailer though, it really looks potentially better than Limitless!

  2. That looks like a really good movie! :D I love movies with female leads and Scarlet Johansson being the main character makes it even better! :) I'll have to add it to my to-watch list :)

  3. I saw the trailer last night at the movies; it looks REALLY GOOD! I'm actually quite excited about this movie simply because Scarlett and her character look amazing! The sci-fi element is also very enticing!! Personal note, I just cut my hair and it the exact length of Lucy's (just curly). I got excited about that too. Anyway. I hope this movie doesn't bomb, it seems full of potential!

  4. I hadn't heard of this before, and even though it looks like Star Wars, the Bourne movies, and Intelligence were mashed together by a Joss Whedon fan... it could be very cool.

  5. My issue is the widely mis-quoted, mis-used and misunderstood quote about us using only 10% of our brains. Its not true and just silly how movies still use it.

Otherwise, my thought was Akira as well. It seems just like Akira. For that I'm excited. In fact I had heard there was a live action Akira coming (somewhere on the HSX forum) and I thought this was it. Should be exciting!

    1. Thanks for the comment Aaron. I agree though about the mis-quote.

Yes, I have heard about a live-action Akira movie as well. Although, according to what I have read, it is a long ways off from actually being made unfortunately.

  6. Both my teens so badly want to see this, as do I, but unfortunately since its rated R they will not. There is no reason for this kind of movie to be rated R if it is done well.
