New Han Solo Played by Alden Ehrenreich

Alden Ehrenreich will play Han Solo in the untitled 2018 Young Han Solo film, directed by Phil Lord and Christopher Miller. The 24 year old star has had roles in Hail, Caesar!, Blue Jasmine, Beautiful Creatures, Stoker, and various other independent films and minor TV roles, none of which I have seen. Some may be throwing up their arms in protest and raving about Alden being a “bad choice” for Han Solo; honestly, I have not seen Ehrenreich, so there is nothing for me to say positively or negatively about the casting choice.
Han Solo is literally my favorite character in all of fiction, and a young Han Solo prequel film does not sound particularly necessary to me. However, Lawrence Kasdan, the screenwriter of The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, and The Force Awakens, is working with his son, Jon, to pen the script. In many ways, Kasdan has proven to be the unsung hero of the Star Wars franchise. Even though the film feels unnecessary when we could have a Boba Fett standalone film, until Disney proves otherwise, these Star Wars films are going to be amazing, so why not get excited!? One of my favorite YouTubers, Hello Greed, sums up my thoughts almost perfectly in the video below, so you can watch that for a little something extra. But to sum up my thoughts, Ehrenreich is likely to be a brilliant young Han Solo in yet another stunning Star Wars adventure. After The Force Awakens, my optimism is high for anything Disney makes, so it's hard not to be excited! What do you think? Please comment below and let me know!

Top 10 Star Wars Characters: Happy Star Wars Day

May the Fourth be with You! Yes, today is May 4th; Star Wars day! And to celebrate Star Wars day, let's rank the Top 10 Star Wars characters from the movies, TV shows, video games, and novels!

Honorable Mention: Darth Revan

A central aspect of the Knights of the Old Republic video game, Darth Revan is a fixture of the Old Republic era. Revan's storyline showed me how powerful the Star Wars Expanded Universe could be, and if there is one EU story that should be adapted into a film, it should be Revan's story, or even better, a Netflix original series.

10: Rey
Introduced in The Force Awakens with a mysterious past, Rey stood out the most among the stellar new cast, largely thanks to Daisy Ridley's stunning performance. By the time the new trilogy concludes, I have a feeling that Rey will rank even higher on this list. At this point, we know very little about Rey's past, so we will have to wait and see what happens in the next film!

9: Boba Fett
How does a character with only 6 minutes 32 seconds, 4 lines, 5 complete sentences, and 27 words of dialogue become an iconic villain? Well, having one of the most bad*ss character designs ever and an insanely cool spaceship certainly helps. After the Original Trilogy, Boba Fett's backstory has been fleshed out, and honestly, a Boba Fett movie would be such a better idea than a Young Han Solo film, so here's to hoping!

8: R2-D2
Come on, who doesn't love this plucky little guy? Thanks to the audio editors, Kenny Baker, and the effects team, R2-D2 might not speak a word of English, but he has more personality than many main characters.

7: Chewbacca
Everyone's favorite laughing fuzzball, Chewbacca is yet another iconic character, who never speaks a word of intelligible dialogue. With his return in The Force Awakens, Chewbacca will hopefully continue to be a lovable supporting character for our heroes.

6: Princess Leia
Revolutionary in many ways at the time for subverting the "Damsel in Distress" cliche by having the "Damsel" actually fight, Princess Leia is a landmark character in science fiction.

5: Yoda
“Do, or do not. There is no try.” With his role in The Empire Strikes Back being especially noteworthy, Yoda is the exact opposite of the stereotypical "legendary warrior." He is the Jedi Master, the character that embodies everything that a Jedi is.

4: Obi-Wan Kenobi
Obi-Wan Kenobi stands as one of the few characters to be well represented in the Prequel trilogy, largely thanks to Ewan McGregor. Of course, Alec Guinness brilliantly played the character in Original trilogy, enough so to land an Oscar nomination. Is Obi-Wan Rey's father? Who knows, but we will find out soon.

3: Luke Skywalker
Often considered a "whiny" protagonist, unjustly so, Luke Skywalker is the quintessential example of the Hero's Journey. Each film, Luke progresses as a character, as a hero. He faces trials and tribulations on his journey, conflicted between dark and light, if only briefly. Now, in the new Trilogy, we will soon discover his new role.

2: Darth Vader
A few years ago, Darth Vader would have easily topped this list, and while he is certainly the greatest villain ever in fiction, he is edged out by my top pick. With that said, Vader is such a fascinating character. In Star Wars (1977), Vader's entrance is unforgettable, and arguably one of the best villain introductions ever. At first, Vader served as the imposing antagonist against our lovable heroes. While his past is hinted at the first film, little is uncovered until the ultimate plot twist is revealed. Darth Vader is Luke's father, and the entire dynamic of the character changes, which all comes together with his ultimate redemption in Return of the Jedi. Darth Vader is not just my favorite villain; he is always vying for number one spot as my favorite character of all-time.

1: Han Solo
Was there ever a question that Han Solo would be number one? Heck, just look at my profile picture, post signature, or any number things and Han Solo is obviously my favorite Star Wars character of all-time. He is witty, bad*ss, a smart-mouth, and just plain cool. Throughout the Original Trilogy and The Force Awakens, Han progresses and develops from the heartless scoundrel that gunned down Greedo in the cantina to actually caring for someone other than himself by Return of the Jedi. However, *Force Awakens Spoilers* ultimately Han returns to the only thing he knows after personal tragedy. And finally, Han's character came full circle with his death by the hand of his son; a poetic end for a beloved character. *End Spoilers* And of course, Han shot first. Was there ever a question?

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Discussion - Part 2

It's time for Part 2 of the Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Discussion! And as the title suggests, massive spoilers are ahead, so if you haven't seen the movie, what the heck have you been doing with your life!? Go watch it now! Now, let's talk some spoilers!

Starkiller Base
It's the Death Star, again, but bigger. As far as criticisms go, Starkiller base essentially being a bigger Death Star is the most valid, and honestly the only one with much weight behind the argument. Should the central McGuffin been something other than a giant weapon that destroys starsystems? Yeah, probably. Is it as big a deal as some are making it out to be? Nope, it's still different enough, and can you honestly think of something better?

With that said, using Starkiller Base to destroy basically all the politics in the Star Wars galaxy is rather brilliant. Now one of the worst parts of the Prequel Trilogy is completely out of the picture! As it turns out, there were some deleted scenes that take place about the Senate on the planets that were destroyed, which might have added some weight to the moment where they are destroyed, albeit at the cost of pacing. However, we will have to wait until the Blu-Ray to see if the scene would have been worth keeping in the film. But as a whole, Starkiller Base is the one plot point that is a bit too similar to the previous films.

Poe Dameron Sidelined and Originally Died?
Poe Dameron is hailed as one of the many highlights of The Force Awakens and for good reason. Oscar Isaac made the character instantly likable, and his chemistry with Finn made for an awesome Bromance in 5 minutes! However, according to sources, Poe was said to have died in the Tie-Fighter crash in the original script. Probably after seeing how great of a character the writers had, the script was changed and Poe merely went missing in the crash. Many reviews complained that Poe did not receive enough screen. While I agree to a point, his exclusion is one of the many brilliant decisions that the writers made to prevent the film from being cluttered and overstuffed, like many films are today. Of course, Poe should definitely play a major role in Episode VIII now that Han Solo has died.

Luke Skywalker
Thanks to the brilliant marketing, no knew that Luke Skywalker would have almost no screen time and zero lines of dialogue! And while some may be disappointed by his lack of screen time, nothing about the marketing alluded that Luke would have much of a role in the film. In fact, not including Luke is a brilliant decision by the creators. The Force Awakens benefits for the limited number of central characters and saving Luke for the next film should prove to be a great asset to the film. While not many people seem to disagree, Luke exclusion from the film was excellently executed.

Millennium Falcon: "The garbage will do"
Easily one of, if not, the best scene in the film is when Rey and Finn are running from the First Order to find a ship, Finn says, "What about that ship?" and Rey shouts, "That one's garbage." The quad-jumper ship that they are running towards explodes, and Rey shouts again, "The garbage will do," as the camera pans towards the Millennium Falcon! First time watching the movie, I literally gasped loud enough for my brother to hear two seats away. Just wow! That is how you introduce the Millennium Falcon! The scene makes the Millennium Falcon an integral part of the story and doesn't just stop everything to have a moment. The Millennium Falcon is shown, only the audience thinks of it as anything special, and the plot continues in possibly the best starfighter chase of the franchise, or at least since Return of the Jedi. Everything about the scene is perfectly executed. It highlights one of the many strengths of the film in that it doesn't dwell on the past to get the audience nostalgic. All of the aspects from the Original Trilogy are incorporated into the story organically.

Star Wars: The Force Awakens Spoiler Discussion - Part 1

Welcome to part one of my multi-part spoiler discussion of Star Wars: The Force Awakens! If you have not seen The Force Awakens, go watch it now and then come back because major spoilers are ahead. For everyone else, this post is intended to discuss spoilers, so go crazy with spoilers and thoughts in the comments. This discussion series will focus on specific characters, moments, and points of discussion.

Supreme Leader Snoke and Crazy Theories
If one character could be changed, it would be Supreme Leader Snoke. Based on what we see in this film, having the brilliant Andy Serkis play a motion-capture character seemed unnecessary. Making him a CGI character might pay off in the sequels. However, the CGI quality was somewhat lacking in The Force Awakens. Then there is that moment when everyone wonders: "IS HE IS A FREAKING GIANT!? PLEASE NO!" Thankfully, it was a hologram, so he was probably just compensating for something.... But yeah, even if the creators were planning on making him a giant, hopefully they are listening to the backlash against the idea, and Snoke will either be small in stature or relatively normal.

Other than whether or not Snoke is a giant, the biggest thing about the character is the question of who the heck is he!? Is he Darth Plagueis? Or Palpatine? Heck, why not Jar Jar Binks? I'm sorry, but all these fan "theories" are getting a little out of hand! Some have even said Darth Vader or Mace Windu, which is absurd! And don't get me started on how dumb the time-traveling Kylo Ren "theory" is! My guess is the logical one: Snoke is a new character! At this point, people might end up disappointed if Snoke is not related to a preexisting character, but as long as Snoke is an interesting antagonist, I'll be satisfied. And Disney, please make the CGI look better in the next film!

Han Solo Dies
"NOOOOOOOOOOOO" HAN SOLO DIED!!!!!!! My favorite character in the history of fiction is dead! His death has even gotten me to change my profile picture back to a new picture of Han! But wow, watching my favorite character die was an experience! Thankfully, I did not hear any spoilers before seeing the film. However, believe it or not, I called his death as soon as a new Star Wars movie was announced. Sure, you might not believe me, and as crazy as it sounds, I never wanted to write about it because if I was correct, I might spoil the film for someone other than my brother. Heck, I never even told my friends, only my brother, Jacob.

With that aside, Han Solo's death was apparent to me as soon as he walked toward Kylo Ren on the walkway. However, giving almost a warning to audience was intended and created incredible amounts of tension as Kylo handed Han the Lightsaber. What made it all the more powerful is Ford's surprised, yet not sad, expression, as he helped his son in some way. It was painful to watch in the best way possible. Chewbacca's wail of anger and despair as he shot Kylo and mowed down some Stormtroopers was the perfect way to bring the audience back from the shock of Han's death. All around, a superbly executed scene with so much emotion! And Harrison Ford finally got to kill off his character like he and the writers wanted to in Return of the Jedi.

Leia and Chewie not Mourning
Han's death did lack in one area.... After Chewie, Rey, and Finn returned from the battle, Chew walks right past Leia! He just walks right on past as Rey hugs Leia. This is such a missed opportunity! Leia and Chewie knew Han better than anyone. As Chewie walks off the ship, Leia and Chewie should have embraced and mourned briefly, or something like that. Honestly, if there was one thing that I could change about The Force Awakens, this is it!

Star Wars Origin Films: Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett.

According to reports, the standalone Star Wars films that are set to be released between each of the main trilogy will be Origin movies featuring characters from the Star Wars universe and their origin stories. Some of the possibilities that have been thrown around for the origin films are Han Solo, Yoda, and Boba Fett. Why is Disney doing this!? I suppose it is an easy cash grab to make entire movies about some of the most popular characters of the franchise. My biggest problem with this entire concept of origin films is that prequels almost never go well. How many prequel movies have been generally considered better than the originals? Basically none! I wish Disney would make a standalone movie about entirely new characters, minor characters in Ep. VI, or adapt a popular expanded universe story, and not make origin stories. Okay, below are my thoughts on each of the possible origin films along with other ideas.
Note: To clarify, I do not want any Star Wars Origins films with the exception of maybe Boba Fett. I am just entertaining the idea for thought.

Han Solo Origins
Among the characters that might receive an origins film, Han Solo is the one that needs it the least. Making a Han Solo: Origins film is the absolutely worst thing that Disney could do outside of a Jar Jar Origins. Han cannot be recast, end of discuss, Han Shot First! No actor will ever be able to live up to Ford's portrayal and why does there even need to be an origins movie? There are no positives to this scenario when there are so many better ideas for Origin films.

Boba Fett Origins
Heck yeah, a Boba Fett movies would be awesome! Since Fett's background has already been covered rather extensively in Ep. II and the Clone Wars, there is absolutely no reason to have the film take place before Ep. III. My preferred idea would be to bring in fan favorite Cad Bane and make a Boba Fett x Cad Bane team up film. The film should take place a few years after Ep. III and be about Boba Fett and Cad Bane hunting the last of the Jedi for the Emperor. If Cad Bane could be pulled off in live-action, the movie could be amazing. Captain: the First Avenger director and original creator of Boba Fett himself, Joe Johnston should direct the film. He has pitched a Boba Fett film in the past, so he knows the character. Even if Cad Bane is not part of the film, just a Boba Fett movie would be awesome. Jango Fett actor Temuera Morrison should play Boba Fett. Even though Morrison is a little old for the part, his age could be explained as being a side affect of the cloning process.

Yoda Origins
The idea for a Yoda origins films has been thrown around for sometime now, so it would be not out of the realm of possibility. While a Yoda origins movie would not be my first choice, it does offer the widest range of possible stories since Yoda lived over 900 years and his origins have only been slightly hinted at and covered in minor EU stories. Also Yoda's species does not even have a name, that is how secretive they are about his origins. My biggest concern with a Yoda movie is that it would basically be an animated film, since Yoda would have to be computer animated. Even though Yoda is one of my favorite characters and a movie would not the a bad idea, I find it difficult to grasp
how Disney would pull it off.

Jar Jar Binks Origins
Okay, here is the setup: The movie opens with Jar Jar and about 15 seconds later he is killed by every character in the Star Wars universe. Obviously this is a joke, but if Jar Jar appears in the any of the new movies I shall be angry, unless it is in a clever joke.

Another that could have a cool Origin story would be Mace Windu, and Sam L. is said to be up for it.

What are your thoughts on the possible Star Wars Origin films? Which Star Wars characters deserve an origin story? Pease comment below.

How Han Made the Kessel Run in Less than 12 Parsecs.

In Han Solo's introduction scene he claims that the Millennium Falcon made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs with the line “"It's the ship that made the Kessel Run in less than twelve parsecs.” which sounds ludicrous at first because a "Parsec" is a unit of length not time. Which has led many fans to speculate that Han was simply boasting or that it was mistake in the filming; however, there a few theories on the subject that might explain this discrepancy. After listening to the commentary track by George Lucas and various others on the DVD of Star Wars, he clearly explained the reasoning behind the statement. In space a ship has to navigate around objects (planets, asteroids, ect.) in hyperspace routes and either through Han's skill as a navigator or the Falcon's navigation computer he made the Kessel Run in a very shorter distance. On the other hand, in A.C. Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy, the Maw cluster of black holes distorts space and time, therefore the length of the route is shortened by flying close to it. Another possibility is that he was simply boasting and later information was changed to make that statment true. Because in the revised fourth draft of Star Wars in 1976, the description for "Kessel Run" is put as follows: “It's the ship that made the Kessel run in less than twelve parsecs! Ben reacts to Solo's stupid attempt to impress them with obvious misinformation. “This would imply that Han’s claim is only "misinformation", not truth, and it has nothing to do with the nature of the Kessel Run in any aspect. Even in the final edition of the script, the parentheses added to Han's line states that he is "obviously lying." I believe that Lucas’s answer is the most logical, although I assume he only thought of this well after he filmed Star Wars. What are your thoughts on the debate? Please comment below.

Book Review: Star Wars: Dark Force Rising.

Star Wars: Dark Force Rising, the second installment in arguably the best Star Wars book series. Because Dark Force Rising is a direct sequel to Heir to the Empire, any plot details would ruin the both books, therefore is no spoilers of any kind will be revealed in this review. As I had said in my review for Heir to the Empire, it was a fantastic book and my favorite book until I read the Lord of the Rings. One of the many things that Heir to the Empire captured perfectly about Star Wars is how the characters Han, Luke, Leia, Lando and Chewie are portrayed and Dark Force Rising is no exception. Also the new characters that were introduced in the previous are further developed like Grand Admiral Thrawn, Mara Jade and Talon Karrde, all of whom are expertly written characters.

There was a surprising amount of suspense and tension during many parts of the book, were I found myself mentally "On the edge of my seat" needing to know what happened next. If you are a Star Wars fan, you need to read the Thrawn trilogy, especially if you are an Original Trilogy fan like me. In many ways it is superior to the Prequel Trilogy, since the characters are written very well and story so involving. This comes closest to finally giving the fans the true original Star Wars that I have been wanting. While Dark Force Rising is not the Empire Strikes Back of sequels, it serves to advance the story and be a solid middle chapter in the larger story.

There are some continuity changes that Lucas screwed up when he created the Attack of the Clones about who the Clones were but the Clone Wars is never explained in detail.

The character Grand Admiral Thrawn is officially in my Top 15 Star Wars characters and Mara Jade at least in my Top 25 because they are such great characters, it is hard not to like them.

Plot: 9.9/10- While there were very few small plot missteps, the story as a whole is absolutely brilliant. Being the middle chapter of one story, similar to the Two Towers in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, it does end on a cliffhanger of sorts. However, there are many twists and turns throughout the plot; I never knew what was coming next. There were many references to the original trilogy in terms of story and some of the character's dialogue, which as a major Star Wars geek was awesome.

Audiobook: 10/10- Because I had to wait for the unabridged by Marc Thompson to be released for Dark Force Rising, it has been around 8 months since I listened to Heir to the Empire. I have forgotten how much better he is than anyone else at making audiobooks and copying the character's voices. He gives distinct voices to the main character, making it easy to distinguish between characters. The only problem is when he is reading dialogue from a female character but he does an admirable job and it does not take long to get used to it. Thompson's impressions of Han and Lando are most impressive, he sounds almost exactly like the characters, except they have aged 5 years since Return of the Jedi. The use of sounds effects and music is perfect. John Williams’ amazing score highlights key points of the book to bone chilling effect and adds the classic Star Wars feel to the book. Also his voice for Grand Admiral Thrawn is exactly as I would imagine

Overall: 9.9/10- While one would have to be a Star Wars fan to truly appreciate it, Dark Force Rising and Heir to the Empire are the perfect sequels to the original Star Wars trilogy; an absolute must read for any Star Wars fan.

Top 25 Fictional Couples: Part 2.

Happy Valentine's Day everyone. Here is part 2 to the Top 25 Fictional couples list that the readers requested. Also thanks everyone for the overwhelmingly amount of positive comments on yesterday's part 1 of the this Top 25 Couples List.  Hope you enjoy.

At Number 12: The Doctor and Rose Tyler or River Song
Since he has had a relationship with Rosa early on in the series and later *Doctor Who Spoilers* married River Song recently in the series. *End of Spoilers* David Tennant's Doctor probably had the best chemistry with Rose than any other companion and she was his first romantic relationship with The Doctor.

At Number 11: Scott (Cyclops) and Jean Grey
While the movie version of Scott Summers (aka Cyclops) and Jean Grey were given the shaft in the movies, they are a core part of the X-Men in the comics. Their relationship is a driving force in many classic X-Men comic runs like the Phoenix Sage that they deserve a spot on this list.

At Number 10: Joker and Harley
Not exactly a nice relationship, consider that they are both deranged psychopaths. Harley is one of my favorite characters in the Batman universe and I wish Nolan had given us an adaptation of the character in his trilogy. Watch the episode "Mad Love" of Batman: The Animated Series to see more of this crazy couple.

At Number 9: Master Chief and Cortana
OK, this is far from the traditional "romance" because Cortana is a sentient artificial intelligence and Master Chief is basically the future version of Captain America. If you have played the Halo series, particularly Halo 4, it should be obvious as to why they are on the list.

At Number 8: Luke and Mara
Luke Skywalker and Mara Jade had instant chemistry on the pages of Timothy Zahn's Thrawn book trilogy. Although non-Star Wars will have never heard of the couple since Mara has yet to make an appearance in any form of media except for a few video games, there are many fans of Luke and Mara. If she is completely disregarded in the up-coming Star Wars trilogy I will be very disappointed.

At Number 7: Indiana and Marion
While it's the first appearance of Harrison Ford on this list, it certainly will not be the last. During their first scene together, the audience instantly see what their relationship and the history behind it. On screen they are so much fun to watch, but let us forgot about the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull because that never happened.

At Number 6: Shepard and Tali
This choice from the Mass Effect series needs some explaining for those who have not played the video game. In Mass Effect the player creates a character named Shepard and goes through the story making dialogue choices that affect the outcome of the game. If the play so chooses, he can exchange dialogue with the certain members of the squad and build a romantic relationship. For me, Tali was the most fascinating character and had a better back-story compared to Miranda or Kelly Chambers. She can not even remove her enviro-suit without risk of contracting a deadly disease, and she is so funny and awkward that is one of the many reasons why Tali is such a compelling character. Below is a sample of the dialogue from the game.

At Number 5: Steve and Peggy
They are one of the most believable couple I have seen in a movie. The ending scene of Captain America: The First Avenger was both sad and satisfying at the same time.

At Number 4: Revan and Bastlia
Another couple from the Star Wars universe, Revan and Bastlia first appeared in the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic video game. Unfortunately, I cannot say more without spoiling the plot for the game.

At Number 3: Peter and Gwen or Mary Jane
Since both film versions of Spider-Man had fantastic couples with Toby McGuire and Kirsten Dunst and Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone, they are both included on this list. If I had to choose, I would pick Garfield and Emma Stone because they had such great chemistry together on screen.

At Number 2: Tony and Pepper
Two of the best cast couples of all-time, Robert Downy Jr. as Tony Stark and Gwenethen Pawthorl as Pepper Potts. Believe it or not, in the comics Pepper was not Tony's romantic interest, she ended up marring Iron Man's head of security "Happy" Hogan. Despite this, this is possibly the best change ever made from comic to film because it works so well. They play off each other as if they have known each other for years and their on screen chemistry is virtually unmatched. Not only one of the best fictional couples, they are one of the funniest as well.

At Number 1: Han and Leia
How could I choose anyone else but Han and Leia for the top spot? My favorite hero and heroine from all of fiction together, could it get any better? Their banter is hilarious as demonstrated by the Gifs below and their chemistry is fantastic. Although the nearly 15 year age difference between the characters, Carrie Fisher has such a presence that the difference is not even noticable. They even had the best exchange of romantic dialogue in cinema history with.
Leia: "I love you."
Han: "I know."
Ford even came up with that line on the spot. Also do not forget about the "Scruffy looking nurf herder." scene, both clever and hilarious.

Click here to read Jamie's top couples list.

The pictures above are from Star Wars Here & There by Helen.

I know there were a few that could have made the list but just fell short like Robin Hood and Maid Marion or any couple from Alfred Hitchcock's films. Who are your favorite Fictional Couples? Please comment below.
