We have recently watched "The Outlaw Josey Wales" and now it is our favorite western of alltime.

The Good: Lots of shooting action, Redefines the western genre, Excellent acting, Combines the western and adventure genre for great effect, Not your typical western, Just the right amount of humor but it is not a comedy, Has a cast of very interesting characters, One of the best movies of alltime,

The Bad:




Plot: Josey Wales, a peaceful Missouri farmer, is driven to revenge by the brutal murder of his wife and son by a band of pro-Union Jayhawkers — Senator James H. Lane's Redlegs from Kansas.
Wales joins a group of pro-Confederate Missouri guerrillas. led by William T. Anderson. At the conclusion of the war, Captain Fletcher persuades the guerrillas to surrender, saying they have been granted amnesty. Josey Wales, still holding a grudge, refuses to surrender. As a result, he survives the massacre of the men by Captain Terrill's Redlegs, who've now joined the Union Army.
Wales intervenes and guns down several Redlegs with a Gatling gun. Senator Lane puts up a $5,000 bounty on Wales. Wales begins a life on the run from Union militia and bounty hunters while still seeking vengeance and a chance for a new beginning in Texas. Along the way, he unwillingly accumulates a diverse group of traveling companions despite all indications that he would rather be left alone. His companions include a wily old Cherokee named Lone Watie, a young Navajo woman, and an elderly Yankee woman from Kansas and her granddaughter rescued from a band of Comancheros.


Plot: 9.6/10- The Outlaw Josey Wales has a plot that is very original and has a pace.


Action: 9.3/10- There is a lots of shoot'em action in between adventure.


Acting: 9.6/10- Clint Eastwood is excellent and is suported by a strong cast.


Special effects:N/A


Soundtrack: 7.5/10- It wasn't great but it worked for the movie.


Comedy: 9.5/10- The Outlaw Josey Wales is not a comedy but it was plenty of humor especially by Lone Watie.


Overall: Overall The Outlaw Josey Wales is an amazing movie that is not just the best wersten of alltime but one of the best movies of alltime.


Closing comments: The Outlaw Josey Wales redefines the western genre with new elements that make it new and fresh.

The Sting Review.

The Good: Always keeps you guessing, Great acting, It did NOT have a slow plot, Excellent use of 1920's silent movie editing gave it a nice retro feel(it is not a silent movie), Shocking ending

The Bad:




Plot: Johnny Hooker (Redford), a grifter from Depression-era Joliet, Illinois, along with accomplices Luther Coleman (Robert Earl Jones) and Joe Erie (Jack Kehoe) steal $11,000 in cash from an unsuspecting mark. Luther announces his retirement and advises Hooker to seek out an old friend, Henry Gondorff, in Chicago, who can teach him the art of the "big con."
Unfortunately the mark was a numbers racket courier for crime boss Doyle Lonnegan (Robert Shaw). Corrupt Joliet police Lieutenant William Snyder (Charles Durning) confronts Hooker, demanding a cut and revealing Lonnegan's involvement. Hooker pays Snyder in counterfeit bills. Lonnegan's men murder Luther and Hooker flees to Chicago.
Gondorff (Paul Newman), a once-great con-man now down on his luck, is initially reluctant to take on the dangerous Lonnegan. Eventually he decides to resurrect an elaborate and supposedly obsolete scam known as "the wire." A large number of con artists are recruited to simulate a betting parlor.
Gondorff's girlfriend (Eileen Brennan) steals Lonnegan's wallet aboard the opulent 20th Century Limited enroute from New York City. Gondorff, posing as boorish Chicago bookie "Shaw", buys his way into Lonnegan's private high-stakes poker game on the train with the latter's own money. He taunts, goads and out-cheats Lonnegan, winning $15,000. Hooker, posing as Shaw's disgruntled employee "Kelly", is sent to collect the winnings (which Lonnegan, lacking his wallet, was of course unable to pay).
"Kelly" pretends to seek the overthrow of his boss, Shaw, convincing Lonnegan that he has a partner in the Chicago Western Union office named Les Harmon, and that he can use this connection to win large sums of money in Shaw's off-track betting (OTB) establishment by past-posting. Harmon is actually one of the lead con artists, going by the name Kid Twist. He and J.J. Singleton, another con man, successfully "borrow" an actual Western Union office for a very brief time, to help dupe Lonnegan.


Plot: 9.0/10- Right when you think you got the movie figured out something surprising happens.


Action: N/A- Other than a few chase scene not munch else.


Acting: 8.7/10- Robert Redford and Paul Newman gave great performances and the rest of the cast was good.


Special effects: N/A


Soundtrack: 7.8/10- The soundtrack is mostly 1920s piano music which fit the setting of the movie perfectly.


Comedy: N/A


Overall: 8.4/10- The Sting is an excellent mystery crime movie that we highly reconmend.


Closing comments: The Sting is an entertaining movie that always keeps you guessing.

True Grit (1969) Review.

The Good: One of the best westerns of alltime, Unique plot for a western, Better than the recent True Grit (2010) movie, Epic gunfight at the end, John Wayne at his best,

The Bad:




Plot: After Frank Ross (John Pickard) is murdered in October 1880 by his hired hand, Tom Chaney (Jeff Corey), in Fort Smith, Arkansas, Ross' 14-year-old daughter Mattie (Kim Darby) travels to Fort Smith and hires the aging U.S. Marshal Reuben "Rooster" J. Cogburn (John Wayne). Mattie has heard that, despite his vices and missing eye, Cogburn has "true grit". She gives Rooster a down payment to track down Chaney, who has taken up with "Lucky" Ned Pepper (Robert Duvall), a gang leader whom Rooster once shot in a gunfight.
The pair must head into Indian Territory (Oklahoma). Mattie buys a horse for this, after collecting money from a horse trader. They are joined by a young Texas Ranger, La Boeuf (Glen Campbell), who hopes to collect a $1,500 reward for capturing Chaney, much more than Mattie is offering Cogburn. The ranger says Chaney also killed a Texas Senator named Bibbs, and Bibbs' dog. Mattie dislikes the boastful La Boeuf and refuses his assistance, but the ranger joins forces with Cogburn, who agrees to split the reward with him. The two try to abandon Mattie, but they learn that she is determined to join their posse.
After several days, the three plan to spend the night at a cabin which Cogburn had said would be empty. At the cabin, they discover Emmett Quincy (Jeremy Slate) and Moon (Dennis Hopper), two horse thieves waiting for Pepper. Moon's leg is badly injured and Cogburn uses the injury as leverage to get information about Pepper from them. To prevent Moon from telling too much, Quincy fatally stabs Moon with a knife, and Cogburn kills Quincy. Before Moon dies, he tells Cogburn that Pepper and his gang are due at the hideout that night; the posse lays a trap.
The following morning, Pepper and his men arrive at the hideout. La Boeuf mistakenly fires and a shootout ensues, during which Cogburn and La Boeuf kill two of the gang, but Pepper and the rest escape. Cogburn, La Boeuf and Mattie make their way to McAlester's store, where the marshal arranges for the four dead men to be buried. Watch the movie to see what happens


Plot: 9.6/10- True Grit has a very Unique  original plot for a western.

Action: 8.1/10- Epic gunfight at the end of the movie and lots of adventure.


Acting: 9.5/10- Is is easily the best performance John Wayne has ever had and Kim Darby as Mattie was also terrific.


Special effects: N/A


Soundtrack: 6.2/10- Standard western soundtrack not bad but not great.


Comedy: 8.6/10- True Grit is not a comedy but plenty of humor in the movie including John Wayne's great one liners.


Overall: 9.5/10- Overall True Grit is not just a great western it is a great adventure moive.


Closing comments: True Grit is one of the best westerns of alltime and we highly recommend it.

Doctor Who Season 6 review.

We have watched Doctor Who since the series began in 2005 so we decided to review season 6 of Doctor Who.

Doctor Who season 6 ended last night and is sure ended with a bang.

Best episodes:Day of the Moon, The Doctor's Wife, A Good Man Goes To War, Let's Kill Hitler, The Wedding of River Song, Closing Time

Worst episodes: There weren't any stand out bad episodes.




Good: Best show on television by far, Most of the episodes are hilarious, Excellent soundtrack, Started with the most shocking event we have ever seen for a season premier, Great acting, Almost every episode is always moving forward never a slow moment, The Silence are a great new enemies, Amazing special effects a TV show, Shocking finale, Proved that bo ties and fez are cool.

Bad:


Plot: 9.7/10- This a score for the season 6 as a whole including all episodes. Extremely shocking season premier and a shocking finale you never know what is going to happen next.


Action: 8.7/10- Doctor Who does have not many shooting or fight scenes but it is always moving and ever gets boring.


Acting: 9.6/10- All of the cast is amazing and Matt Smith is perfect for the Doctor.


Special effects: 8.5/10- Most of the effects are really good for a TV show but a few of them you can tell it is fake.


Soundtrack: 9.5/10- Some of the best soundtrack ever not just in a TV show.


Comedy: 9.7/10- Most of the episodes are hilarious with comedy though out and some of the episodes are funny enough to be a comedy.


Overall: 9.6/10- Doctor Who proved yet again that is the best show on television and one of the funniest but it is not always a comedy.


Closing comments: Doctor Who is an excellent show that you should watch if you have any interest in quality television. You can get all of the seasons of Doctor Who on Netflix but we reconmend you start with season 5.

Saving Private Ryan Review.

We watched Saving Private Ryan a few weeks ago so here is the review.

The Good: Lots of realistic WWII action, Good acting, John Willaims soundtrack,

The Bad: Very unrealistic plot for a movie that is set the real world, To munch profinity(we are not giving it a lower score because of it)

Plot: The film begins with an elderly World War II veteran and his family visiting the Normandy American Cemetery and Memorial at Colleville-sur-mer; Normandy, France. The scene then cuts to the morning of June 6, 1944, the beginning of the Normandy invasion, with American soldiers preparing for the perils of landing on Omaha Beach and struggling against dug-in German infantry, machine gun nests, and artillery fire, which cut down many of the men. Captain John H. Miller, the company commander of Charlie Company, 2nd Ranger Battalion, survives the initial landing and assembles a group of soldiers to penetrate the German defenses, leading to a breakout from the beach.
The scene then shifts to the United States where General George Marshall is informed that three of four brothers in the Ryan family have all died within days of each other and that their mother will receive all three notices on the same day. He learns that the fourth son, Private First Class James Francis Ryan of Baker Company, 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division is missing in action somewhere in Normandy. After reading to his staff Abraham Lincoln's letter to Mrs. Bixby, Marshall orders that Ryan be found and sent home immediately because of the Sole Survivor Policy.
Back in France, three days after D-Day, Miller receives orders to find Ryan. He assembles six men from his company (Horvath, Mellish, Reiben, Jackson, Wade and Caparzo), plus one detailed from the 29th Infantry Division (Upham), who speaks fluent French and German, to accomplish the task. With no information about Ryan's whereabouts, Miller and his men move out to Neuville. On the outskirts of Neuville they meet a platoon from the 101st. After entering the town, Caparzo is wounded by a sniper in the chest, and slowly bleeds to death, since nobody can go out into the open without getting hit. Jackson is able to pick off the sniper after Caparzo dies. They locate a Private James Frederick Ryan from Minnesota, but soon realize that he's not their man. They find a member of Charlie Company, 506th, who informs them that his drop zone was at Vierville and that Baker and Charlie companies had the same rally point. Once they reach it, Miller locates a friend of Ryan's, who reveals that Ryan is defending a strategically important bridge over the Merderet River in the fictional town of Ramelle. Watch the movie to see what a happens next.



Plot: 6.9/10- The plot is very unrealistic. Something similar has happen in real life but not behind enemy lines.


Action: 9.6/10- Lots of realistic shooting action though out the movie.


Acting: 9.3/10- Tom Hanks was terrific and the rest was also.


Special effects: N/A- Not munch other than realistic blood effects.


Soundtrack: 8.6/10- Another amazing soundtrack by John Williams but not his best.

Comedy: N/A


Overall: 8.9/10- Saving Private Ryan is a great action movie with good acting but the plot was not so good.


Closing comments: If you like action movies Saving Private Ryan is the movie for you.
