Hobbit sets December record with $84.7 million.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey set a December record with $84.7 million at the domestic box office over the last three days and an impressive $200 million in the overall gross. It has surpassed all three of the Lord of the Rings films and not surprisingly is on pace to be in the top five highest grossing films of the year. While unlikely, I hope it will top the James Cameron's overrated Avatar The Dark Knight Rises, which is not overrated. Hopefully I will seeing the Hobbit in 3D on Tuesday and have the review posted by Wednesday. Are you surprised by the numbers? Have you seen the 48 frames per-second version of the film? Is it worth viewing in the high frame rate? Please comment below.

Long story short, if you loved LotR, you'll love this. It's the weakest in the series, but the last ones were practically perfect so thats not saying much. Can't wait to read your review!

  3. I saw in the regular 28fps and it looked amazing. Also, several friends complained that in the 48fps some of the CGI looked cartoonish. So I'd just recommend watching it in 28, then maybe seeing it 48.

  5. @Jake P: Thanks for the advice, I took it and watched it in the standard 24 fps. But I think it would have been a six hour round trip to see it in 48.

@Shena Tokala: Same here, hopefully it will top one billion. Hope you like the movie, its fantastic! :D
