Hunger Games Filming in My Hometown!

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay is filming in my hometown! Yes, the third entry in the Hunger Games is filming in an old abandoned complex in the town near where I live, and I have pictures below. Jacob and I drove around the building taking pictures, which I have posted below. Unfortunately, the crew covered most of everything that was going on, but we did get some photos of the tents and one picture of a rack of costumes. Considering that they have been filming for almost two weeks now, it would seem a good deal of the movie is being filmed there. Unfortunately, I have not seen any of cast around the area, although I do not live in town. For those that live in a big city, movies filming where you live is probably not a big deal but considering how small of a town I live in, this is a big event and the first time it has ever happened. Also some of these pictures are just the outside of the building so that you can see what it is going to look like when it is featured in the movies. Please tell me what you think.

This is the best picture because you can see costumes on the rack behind the green fabric, which is obscuring.

Those cranes are not normally there.

That is the security guard, and there are several others around the complex.

  1. Wow, that's awesome!!! :D That's really cool that it's being filmed near where you live! We've had one film done in my town, and I agree, it's really cool, since they aren't used like a lot of the big cities are.
Looking forward to seeing it in the movie :D

  2. That's awesome!! It must have been very cool to get that close to the set and all! I live in a tiny, tiny town, but if they ever need us for a film I would be happy too! I remember one small town we frequently pass through when our family is out-of-state, and several years ago this film needed, like, two shots, and the whole thing made the front page.

    1. Yes it was cool, even if they really did not let us see much of what was going on. That is cool though, I believe that some of the movie 42 was filmed in a bigger city about an hour drive from where I live.

  3. I'm still mad that I haven't seen Josh Hutcherson around town. A friend of mine saw Norman Reedus (Daryl) from the Walking Dead in town, and the guy who plays Rick. However, sadly, I have yet to spot a celebrity! :(

  4. This is so cool! To my recollection I've never seen a live movie and I do live in a big city! Lol! I have never seen a celebrity either. :) Can't wait to see the movie now; we could figure out the shots they used! :D

  5. Cool! Are they hiring extras? Y'all should go try to be in the movie! They were filming near-ish me for the first one, but I didn't know until it was too late, but a person I sorta knew, a friend of a friend, got in as an extra and actually ended up in a bit the movie! I think that'd be so much fun. :D

    1. To my knowledge, they are not hiring extras unfortunately. That is cool, someone my friend knew was an extra in the Walking Dead actually. :) It would be fun to be an extra!

    2. Oo, that's cool, as a zombie? It probably wouldn't be as fun as I imagine, but still I'd love to try it.

  7. That's SO cool! I guess you can't tell us where they're filming...
Pirates of the Caribbean 5 is in post-production where I live! They have to film far enough away so they don't get the city in view so it's driving me crazy that I won't be can't see them! I wonder if some of the cast will tour... ;)

    1. Well, I can tell you that it is being filmed in Georgia and the place is named Martha Mills. :)
That is really cool, but also unfortunate that you cannot see it.

  10. You must be proud! you should have gotten a cameo in the second Hunger Games story if you kindly asked the director's and crew's permission to be on this movie.

    1. Yes I am! Unfortunately the security is tight and they have said not to go near the complex.

  11. That sort of thing happening is the thrill of a lifetime. I agree with everyone else on that. The best we've ever gotten is when major parts of Man of Steel were shot on the air base where my dad works. He was even required to attend briefings on the filming. And then they labeled his signature achievement a "serpentine passageway" in their official handouts! We laughed about that for weeks. We've also had a few car ads film downtown, but none of them were ever put on screen.

    1. Indeed it is! That is cool, I suppose that is where the base where Superman was at in the film.

    2. Your response is unclear. I presume you mean the sequence where Superman is arrested by the military. The fortress of solitude was different. Also, more relevant to your post above, maybe you're not seeing any cast because it might be a lot of 2nd unit explosion shots or the like.

    3. Yes, that is was talking about in Man of Steel. Good point, although I do not live in town and have only been to see the set once, so I have no idea if the cast is there. But I do believe some people have seen the cast.
