Planet of the Apes (2001) review.

Planet of the Apes is a remake of the 1968 classic of the same name.

If you have seen the movie please give it any score from 1 to 10.

The Good: The apes makeup looked natural,

The Bad: A few questionable changes from the original,



Plot: In 2029, aboard the United States Air Force space station Oberon, Leo Davidson (Mark Wahlberg) works closely with primates who are trained for space missions. His favorite simian co-worker is a chimpanzee named Pericles. When a deadly electromagnetic storm approachs the station, a small space pod piloted by Pericles is used to probe the storm. Pericles' pod heads into the storm and disappears. Against his commanding officer's orders, Leo takes a second pod and goes in pursuit of Pericles. Entering the storm, Leo loses contact with the Oberon and crashes on a planet in the year 5021. He discovers that the world is ruled by humanoid apes who can speak human language and treat human beings as slaves.
Leo comes across a female chimpanzee named Ari (Helena Bonham Carter), who protests the awful treatment humans receive. Ari decides to buy Leo and a female slave named Daena (Estella Warren) to have them work as servants in the house of her father, Senator Sandar (David Warner). Leo escapes his cage and frees other humans. Ari sees them, but Leo manages to convince Ari to join their cause.General Thade (Tim Roth) and Colonel Attar (Michael Clarke Duncan) march ape warriors in pursuit of the humans. Leo discovers Calima (the temple of "Semos"), a forbidden but holy site for the apes. Watch the movie to see what happens next.


Plot: 5.8/10- Poorly retold the classic film.


Action: 8.0/10- Lots of adventure and an great action scene at the end,


Acting: 7.7/10- Mark Wahlberg was good and most of the actors how played apes were very ape like.


Special effects: 9.5/10- The makeup for the apes looked very natural .


Soundtrack: 7.0/10- A very good soundtrack that when well with the movie.


Comedy: 8.0/10- It had some surprisingly humorous parts in the movie.


Overall: 5.9/10- Planet of the Apes is a very good and a very different movie than the original.


Closing comments: The movie is not as good as the original but it is a very good remake of a classic.

Recommended for: Sic-Fi fans,  Action Adventure fans, Planet of the Apes fans,

  2. Also i haven't seen many heath ledger films. just a few but from those few i've seen i've liked his acting. i've seen a knights tale, ten things i hate about u, a little bit of brokeback mountain, little bit of patriot, and that's it.

  4. @Aalya Rain: I probably won't watch the new Planet of the Apes untill I can rent it. I have seen some of thoese movies but I have not seen The Covenant, City Island, Coyote Summer, Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee, Sahara, Into the Blue and Ondine. Thanks for the sugguestions.

  6. I just saw this movie again on TV. I give it a 4 because I never liked Planet of the Apes a whole lot but the ending ruined a lot of it for me if they weren't planning to make a sequel. The new one is out and I will see it eventually when I don't have to pay for it. Nice recap though here.
